Hi I plan to make a perlite terrarium in which I plan to have BRF cakes from the PK tek. I wont have much free time though and I wont be around everyday to air out the box. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on this and should I put holes in the box?

Search around on here for whats called a shotgun fruiting chamber it uses perlite and is your best bet for set it and forget it kinda scenarios. It still requires some attention but it's probably your best option.

Ive heard that a Humidity Chmaber with perlite works well. Its just wet perlite at the bottom of a clear tote with the lid askewed. Its a new practice but should work
But if u want to go tried and true, yes put holes in the box, 1 inch grid on all sides. i currently have a modded box with holes on 5 sides (none on the top) and it works well for me. I also have perlite half way up the tote (instead of a quarter of the way like most people) and it workz well for me.

also will making holes in the terrarium not make it harder to achieve 100% humidity if its exposed to the air, water vapour will escape the terrarium

Tote= Plastic storage tote tub. A clear one.
If you design the shotgun fruiting chamber just like you're supposed to your humidity will be perfect it's more about the free air exchange that the design provides.

Exactly. Tote is the commercial name for the product, a clear container for storing items. Sorry, I forgot to explain that detail

PF Tek calls for a 2 inch grid for holes, not 1 inch.

I know. Was just putting out the correct spec so OP builds it correctly should he decide to make one.

Yeah I was quoting you, agreeing so as to reassure the OP. Thanks for coming in with the info. ๐

Ive never used one cuz I went with the humidity chamber, but doesnโt SGFC require you to be around more often?
For low maintenance the HC was great, I put two cakes in a shoebox and dubbed it when they got tall.
Thereโs always normal shoeboxes too, only need to check once a day tops.

I feel like there is a false narrative around the SGFC that you need to fan and mist it a shit ton.
It works just as well if you leave it alone and have some air movement in the room.
