You don't have to "colonize" tubs anymore. Just mix them up, polyfill or medical paper tape the holes, and set in 12/12 lighting and forget about it for a week. Then you can start your misting once a day if you like. If you did your agar and jars right you should have a happy time

Wait why are you misting before letting the sub colonize? Am I that out of step too? I get the 12/12 light cycle and FaE during colonization of the substrate but what benefit do you get from changing the surface conditions from day 1? It seems to me that if you want an even substrate to fruit with you let the sub colonize and use misting and FaE as an evaporative pinning trigger after full colonization of your sub.

You can do it that way too if you like. I don't ever mist at all 😉

You’re correct if things are set up right initially you won’t need to mist until the second flush sometimes. Once the myc colonizes the surface it’ll start to bead up on its own. I’ll get particularly thirsty pinsets sometimes that do suck up all the water and need misting.
But yeah light and air are good at all stages, from jars to shrooms.
The exception to fruit at spawn would be PE varieties.

Hmmm I fruited at spawn a PE6 for years that worked great. But maybe its mixed genetics helped with that. I've always wanted an APE print to play with.

Pe6 doesn’t really count though lol.
I meant PE and ape, and I’m pretty sure PEu as well but I’ve never grown it.
Melmak seems to do ok without it too.
