Crossing my fingers. The ground should warm up significantly tomorrow. Hoping this weekend doesnt set us back here. The rain hasn't been an issue. It's the ground temps I'm waiting on. Your area has had above 50 ground temps for a few days now. Shouldn't be long for you.

Supposedly Ovoids need non-freezing temperatures for 10 days to start the fruiting process, had big rain last night and the forecast shows nothing but rain all week. Hoping the temperatures don't drop as low as they say they will this weekend

It’s been weeks since it was below freezing

I could be wrong but I'm saying that the ground tree maps need to stay above 50 and closer to 55 for about a week. I like the 110 to 120 combined daily temp rule.

Congrats, friend.  :congrats:

Your dedication paid off with a sweet ~70 fruits in that one patch; well done.  Nancy creek provides (just a guess).

I bet it makes you wonder why you never happened upon them during your many carulescens (and other) hunts and hikes.

Thx for the pics.

thanks man. yeah, pretty crazy I had never run into these before in all my hunting. there's really nothing like being able to sit in a known habitat, really take it in, to help you recognize it when you see it again.

It's possible I hunted the same park for ovoids a couple years ago. Nothing doing back then, but awesome find.

:hatsoff:  Curious, are box elders prevalent in the habitats in which you find the larger flushes?

I know you observed some (last year?) both on and trailing down a hillside from a mulched path, and you've recorded them in the habitats like breeg formerly hunted in the typical floodplain-y areas iirc.  But are there box elder dominated areas where you're seeing them fruiting as we typically hunt a few states north of you?

This isn't really the thread for a lot of the chatter that I'm now contributing to.  My bad, y'all.  We should have an ovoid anticipation thread like in the past for all this banter...should a mod move these banter posts to a new thread in order to keep this one on point?

Yeah, the virus talk is way off base...and you dont have to see the problem with bs banter ITT.  Used to not even be able to talk about weather (and it's still against the rules, frankly).

But that's about all I have to say about that.

if there's one thing I'm bad at (and there's really thousands and thousands of things) it's paying attention to trees. But i'll pay better attention next time I'm there and update the thread. There was bamboo very nearby.

Hey guys. I’m really excited for this season. Last year I found some monsters growing and I hope to do the same this year. I’m from Pennsylvania and recently I found a a mulch path that had lots of  mycelium and some of the wood chips were stained blue!  I’m not sure if the mycelium would be able to do that but everywhere that I found the the blue staining I also found mycelium right under or attached to it. You guys think this is a good indicator?

Let's talk about hunting tips. One of my best spots is also located in the landscaping of a local business and they grow right in front of the windows. Other than hitting them in the dark or non business hours what strategies do you guys have for staying on the dl.
