Seems as though in this hobby it's easy for someone to be all over the place rather than stick to one tek and follow step by step untill one has comprehended the general growth cycle of a mushroom. This leads to contamination and is problematic. While on the flip side they're is soooo much good information on the boards that I can see why it's hard to stick to one but also this field is ever growing and still changing. PF tek was once brand new and now things like shoebox tek are hitting the scene.
I've grown to realize that straw seems to be the highest yielding substrate by far. Yes do it might be easy but if easy is what you want then mushroom cultivation might come second to financial gain as far as interests are concerned. Either way I'm super grateful for all the wonderful information on here but due to outdated teks and ever changing information I was curious to find a straw tek that is relatively new. Some people seem to think straw is only used outdoor but if we haven't learned that it's 2020 by now and doing things indoor is possible then I don't know what I should say.
I would like to maximize my yield regardless of the amount of effort or work that is involved. I didn't get into this hobby to slack off even though at times the downtime is of benefit.
So let me see what you got people? Straw tek let's go!

when I just started I couldn't grow a single mushroom because of trichoderma contamination. I then spawned grains to pasteurized straw, didn't even cut it up and had a really good flush. I got some minor yeast contamination on the straw though.
I now sometimes use straw pellets in stead of coir. it works really well but I do sterilize and colonize in substrate bag. I haven't done a comparative study between straw/coir, so I don't know if one outperforms the other.
If you really want to maximize yields, I don't think the substrate would have that much influence. I would use the same substrate for every grow, select some clones, test them out on that same substrate and learn how to read the substrate during the grows. that would have more effect than finding the perfect yield tek...
Good luck though.
