Good morning guys! I’m new to this forum and to hunting. I’m doing my best to educate myself so plz excuse any ignorance as I do so. 🙏 Hunting really feels like looking for a needle in a haystack but it is absolutely fucking irresistible. I need more hours in the day or Paul Stamets to hire me. Anyway, I’m in Atlanta so I narrowed my search to ovoids and welii based upon my location, recent observations & habitat and went out on a magical quest. Wow. Humbling. Nature is so big and I’m so small and I’m also not sure if I need contacts or if you guys that spot these tiny pins in huge beds of pine needles have some crazy trick or wtf but man.. I’m humbled. 1st hunt public park last week on first day of sunshine very unfruitful and only found lots of versicolor. 2nd hunt on Tuesday, different park, same result. 3rd hunt public park on Wednesday morning... walked towards the first loblolly pine that I saw and spotted something bright red. I think this is Amanita Muscaria but it was in my car all day before I could get home to try and learn how to take a spore print and then do it and it shriveled and got super mushy 😩 I still tried just in case and did it on orange paper bc that’s all I could find... if you guys could tell me what you think would be v appreciative ]http:// [/url]

Welcome aboard, we love that you are here... next time though, please make an ID request for unknown finds, this thread is for confirmed actives. This is a Russula as Evly said.

The Gyms yes. Its a huge pile of pine top s trash the forestry left behind. The area they are is probable close to a ft thick of pine wood and pine straw

Wow! And seeing it growing in all of that creeping charlie gives me hope.
That stuff is super invasive and has taken over places I frequent. It'll consume a wood chip bed same as a back yard.

If you can target a spot that has that, stinkhorns and bamboo, I’d bet you could find ovoids 4 out of 10 times. But I only have 3 ovoid spots and I found them for the first time last year about this time, so I’m neck talkin based on a very small sample size

One of my hunting partners and I started joking about creeping Charlie being a companion species about three years ago...and then we really noticed that it accompanies ovoids verrrry often.
It seems to really hold moisture and humidity at the surface of the substrate while still allowing airflow and some sunlight to penetrate. Good stuff for enhancing fruiting conditions.
