Coir without Verm

I just saw I don't have any Verm and want to make some Coir tonight.
Is it not worth making the coir if I don't have Verm?
I can't get any until Friday

only difference i see verm really has is keeping the sub aiiry. Ive noticed faster coloniztion times by up to 3 days. ymmv
no coir is fine too.

Haha. I got some shoeboxes that are straight coir, mostly because I'm a lazy person. But I'm also broke and don't want to buy anything right before the economy collapses.

yeah I haven't used verm in over a year I don't even notice a difference in yields
whatever it is, it's negligible per quart spawn
I hate how messy verm is + its more expensive than coir for me...so I stopped using it completely.

Same. I used verm maybe once before switching to pure coir. Cost and cleanliness of fruits are both advantages. Coir texture will be just fine if you hydrate it correctly.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Verm really comes in handy if you overhydrate you can just add it to the coir and mix until it is at field capacity. It's easier than trying to squeeze it all out one handful at a time. I feel it also keeps the sub from drying out so easily if cultivating during the dry months. However like shadow said it's a little more expensive than coir at least where I get it. I ran out one day and never bought more. It does have its place though I wouldn't rule it out completely. Them again im old school still use wbs, gypsum, modified lids and modified tubs too.

Didnt know growing items were so fashionable
Whats hot this year is Pure Coir. Nothing more is needed (except your spawn of course).
For the PF Tek thou, Vermiculite will always be in style.

R: Gizmo Yup, you and I think alike. Wet stuff + dry stuff = less wet stuff; and that is why vermiculite enters the picture at all IMO. There may be benefits to adding vemic. to a sub; such as making it more aerated (fluffy) etc., but any small improvement claiming greater yields/potency is anecdotally sketchy at best and w/o question scientifically unproven. Shrooms need moisture, and a properly prepared sub w/o vermicultite has plenty 9of it. At least the species we are talking about!

Yeah I bought a monstrous bag of verm when I started and now I just use it cuz itβs there. Sometimes even a little in the bottom of the wbs jar.
It is a huge pain in the ass when when it gets all over the shrooms. I get so happy when I go to harvest a tub and realize it was one where I was too lazy to go get more verm from the garage when I made the coir.

I add verm for one simple reason. I compost my substrates and its good for aeration in the compost.
