All filter patch bags made for mushroom production can be autoclaved or pressure cooked.
The micron size of the filter does determine if you can seal the bag before sterilizing. I don't have an answer for that since I would not recommend sealing before hand.

No. I'm asking which I should purchase. I don't plan on putting a filter on them.
Will a 3mil bag work ok in the pc or do I need a 5mil thick bag?

For grain. Strictly to steralize then inoculate with another grain. If I do decide to filter them I can do that after by my own method.
Figure this would have been a simple answer.
Maybe I just need to try a 5mil bag.
If someone has the answer please let me know. Thanks.

You want filters on the bags so the mycelium is able to receive
gas exchange which is essential to proper colonization. After soaking,
boiling, and surface drying your grains you toss a few quarts into
a bag. Insert a tyvek sleeve into the bag till it reaches the grain

but still hangs out the opening. Zig zag fold the bag and put a plate
or something on it in the pressure cooker to prevent it from going up
and clogging the airlets on the lid. Pressure cook for 90mins at 15psi
then allow to completely cool down remaining in the cooker. Remove and

open them infront of your flowhood, removing the tyvek sleeve, inoculate,
catch some air in the bag, 2 inch twist the opening closed and secure
with a clip or wire, mix and shake if needed. Allow to colonize at 68-72°F
in ambient light.

3 mil will be thick enough, most filter bags are only 3 mil. The 5 mil is obviously gonna be more puncture resistant but I doubt that thickness is really necessary especially if it's just grains.

You do want a filter or the mycelium will stall without gas exchange. You could probably jerry rig some kind of filter to a non-filter autoclave bag but the

take the advice or leave it.

I would not use bags with no filter even if I had them already. Why fuck with using materials to make a filter? Just buy filter patch bags from a sponsor.

Regular autoclave bags without the filter are dirt cheap. I can see the appeal with trying to get them to work, but it may not be worth the time & effort especially when the premade filter bags aren't that expensive anyway

Well...I didn't say to put a filter in it. I said to buy bags with filters
on them. Putting a tyvek sleeve zig zag folded like I directed is to keep
the bag from filling up with steam and exploding and then will allow them
to depressurize and stay in a tight folded state.

Ah gotcha. I was going to put a tyvkek slot in bag and cut it out after pcing. But I might just add one before hand. Either way I won't be buying premade ones. Takes away the fun.
