Help With Rusty White Cultivation - No Fruits

I recently decided to cultivate Rusty Whites and I did everything like you should. Syringe to grain bag, wait for colonization, transferring that to an unmodified mono-tub and mixing it with shroom supply's bulk substrate, with the ratio being 2:5. When I mixed them and smelled both mixtures for the first time they smelled earthy and not like how I've heard contamination smells like. There is no casing layer because I didn't think it would be necessary. The substrate is currently 95% colonized with rizomorphic growth scattered all over, receiving light (cfl bulb about 3-4 feet away) for 12 hours a day, its kept just humid enough to maintain condensation on the walls and top of the tote, the mycelium has produced small amounts of metabolites and I'm too sure why. There are no weird colors from the tote and the temp is around 70-75 F 24/7. The lid is sitting on the hinges to allow about a 1 cm air gap. The only issue I had was not supplying the substrate with enough light in the past and I am currently on day 2 of properly supplying it with light. I can't seem to get it to fruit and I'm not sure why, any suggestions?

Trich has an earthly smell, though I don’t see any on the surface.
Definitely looks off. Than again, could be the pics.

Is it really that yellow or is that the lighting?
If that’s what it looks like, you got bacteria galore
Still, I’d give it another few days for sure.

When I look at it, it seems like the yellow is from the grain spawn and the mycelium metabolites. If it is contamination how could I prevent this in the future? Should I throw away the tote or could i clean and disinfect it to use later on?

Metabolites usually indicate contamination. Good news is, bacterial contamination isn’t as bad as mold. You can still fruit, though yields will suffer.
In the future, just follow a trusted tek. Don’t order pre-made spawn or substrate. Also don’t inoculate grain with spores if you can help it - definitely not an entire bag of grain.

I was trying to follow that gordotek did on youtube. But I'll try to use agar next time for sure. If my batch is contaminated with a fungi would the fruits be even safe to consume even if they looked good? Also just wanted to say that I really appreciate your help!

did you use spores directly to grains?
I mean, it works in many cases but you would have much better success learning agar and going spores > agar > grain

Yeah I used spores to grain, it colonized to 90% to 100% in like 8 days and my gt are still working and just about there. Think maybe the spores where bad?

Gordotek is trash. I can see the allure of learning via video, but this site contains more mush cult knowledge than any other place...like, by far. Best thing you can do for your mushies is start reading. After you start to understand everything....keep going. At some point you’ll realize you didn’t really understand shit. This is how you know you’re doing it right The best part is, this place is full of bored amateur mycologists like myself who are willing to walk you through the entire process.
Oh and, yes, the mushrooms will be safe to eat.

I'm not even sure it's Mycelium. Stop misting and dry the sub out alot. You have a couple of spots of Mycelium that looks bruised, but alot of it looks like white mold. If it is what I think it is when you dry it out it will start to turn pink.

Alrighty thanks for the helpful insight! I've been looking around this website for a while and just finally got around to making an account. I'm a little slow when it comes to new website formats I'm not use to and I am still not used to this one just yet. Any recommendations as to where I should start?

Mold will be more unorganized but Mycelium can also look unorganized if it is really tomatose. Main thing is the sub is really wet. I would dry it out with some fresh air and maybe a small fan pointed in the opposite side of the room
