Anyone else use their TV as a monitor?
    #26542283 - 03/18/20 08:48 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

My shit is great, 4K, to a state of the art PC

The only small problem is - theres a slight lag between sending a command and TV seeing it, which is not that great for games but still pretty awesome

Been doing this forever, but never noticed any lag.

Are you using an old/cheap HDMI cable maybe?

Prolly the 4K setting is too much for the videa card?
I wonder if it would stop lagging at regular resolution. Like, whatever your computer monitor uses.

No expert or anything, just my 2c

How much of a lag would u guess it is? 100 microseconds? Maybe even 50 microseconds?

Yeah, I believe that's around the minimal perception range. I think 10 microsecond latency is completely unnoticeable but I could be wrong.

I dont care much for it, only time it matters is when playing online games like counter strike which demand sharp reaction

Yes, yes, we’re sure you haven’t been also using it to watch 4K porn.

I have a 4k 42" monitor, which is basically like a TV without a tuner and with low input lag.

HDMI is asynchronous and digital so a bad cable would result in visual glitches as parts of the signal become too noisy to decode. Display lag is just an unfortunate aspect of some TVs, to the point that most of them include an audio delay setting just in case you need to get the audio back in sync with the video.

I used to use a 32“tv as a monitor and it was great picture quality, but I decided I prefer multiple monitors over one big one.

I Do.

Im using a Toshiba full HD 49 inch tv for my desktop and the picture quality is fine, it's not a super sharp image like a computer monitor would be, but like I said before, it's fine.

As for 4k TV's, when I decided to get the Xbox One X I shopped around for a tv that would hopefully work well with the console.  I found that some 4k's are better then others when it comes to lag.
If you spend the time you can find models that were made with powerful consoles in mind.  I haven't connected my pc to my 4k tv, but im 100% confident that if I did, it would look fantastic.
As good as a proper monitor?, no, but pretty damn close imo.

I think most new 4k TV's will have a good (to a very good) image quality for both pc's and consoles, but the right tv with the right settings will look great to awesome.
Maybe with the PS5 and the Xbox 2 just around the corner, you'd think that the better brands like Samsung will be making models that compliment the new and much more powerful consoles.

Would u rather have no lag but a smaller screen (same 4K resolution) or a Huge 4K screen with a tiny bit of lag?

Well to be honest I really dont know

I know there some new 4K computer monitors are out there but its overkill - u cant appreciate 4K resolution o  a 26 inch screen, u need at least 50 inch to have 4K.

Personally I love my computer 4K setup @ 58 inches
