Growing mushrooms with contaminant cakes 1

I know this is an unpopular thing to do, but I wanted to share something with yall. I like to do Pf Tek with BRF and a shotgun fruiting chamber. Sometimes my cakes get contaminated when they were already almost done. So I often take the contaminated jars outside, and I will dig out the cut out the white stuff, remove all the contaminates and put it in something mixed with cowshit and coco coir. I then monotub grow those cakes.
Are there other people that do this? Ive had great results and saved quite a bit of money. As soon as I remove the contaminated areas and put my spawn into my cow manure mix it turns very white and looks really healthy. I've never had an issue with contaminates coming back.

It's cool. Not something I strive for, but a lot of people throw bulk spent substrate outside and get further flushes front them.
And your mix of poo coir seems wet.

Is that pooling water or off colored mycelium in the last pic? If it’s the latter those are trash.

I accidentally sprayed them abit too much there. But the one that looks like chocolate pudding is actually doing great. I cant believe how well its doing. It was maybe a quarter size of mycellium but now its got atleast 10 mushrooms coming up from it.

This just seems like a bad practice to me. I'm probably going to be keeping some contaminated grows around more than I should, wanting to get some fruits off of them, but I will at least have the decency to be ashamed of myself. I don't want contaminants growing and sporulating in my house, that makes it more likely that all of my grows will end up contaminated.

Haha that makes sense man. I just wanted to make this thread because when I was very new to growing everything I read from this site didnt only suggest throwing out ANYTHING that gets a tiny contam on it they also advised to throw out the whole jar. I get the sporating part but I guess I feel if I do it outside its not a big deal. Once I shave off any contams and put it in a monotub it grows well. Just wondered if anyone else does this but I think I got my answer. People do do it, but they're too ashamed to admit it.

I've seen a lot of folks suggest fruiting contaminated jars still in the jar, that seems like it could limit the spread of contamination a little.

Next time just add some coir/bulk sub to the top of the jar and zip tie a baggie on top with a couple toothpick sized holes.
Sporulating mold is bad for a work area but I don’t see any sporulating mold in your tubs. There may very well be mold, but it’s not shooting spores yet.
Lastly, “shaving off contams” is more likely to infect future projects if you do that in your work space. Just top fruit and leave the contams, it’s much more dangerous to try and remove them because then you spread whatever it is and risk infecting future projects.

Never seen this before. This is quite a breakthru!
I have seen people grow infected cakes outdoors but Ive never seen someone rework an infected cake into a shoebox/mono and "refruit" it.
Very cool OP

I may try that too. I do not keep those in my work area. I have mushrooms in a spare room and I have these out in the garage.

Does this look good for a quarter size of mycellium mixed in only cow shit?
