Transferring partially colonized substrate to monotub
    #26541625 - 03/17/20 09:17 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hi guys. New here and have a question for you. I purchased a bag with grain and substrate both in the same bag. I colonized the grain to approx. 95% then mixed the grain and substrate together inside the bag. I mixed the grain and substrate inside the bag 3 days ago. It is now all starting to colonize nicely I believe.

I have since been reading about monotubs and how I can get a larger yield by colonizing the grain and substrate and fruiting in the tub rather than the bag. I see now that I should have transferred the bag to the tub when the grain reached full colonization before mixing the substrate.

My question is: Will it do any harm to take the grain/substrate bag (that is partially colonized) and place it in the monotub? Will transferring and remixing already partially colonized substrate do harm? Should I move to a monotub or just deal with the smaller yield in the bag?

Any advice/suggestions for moving forward would be much appreciated.  This is a first for me and I’m wanting to learn all I can. Thanks!

Why not just fruit from the bag itself?

Why take the risk. I would not spawn that to more substrate.

You probably could slip it out after its colonized and shoebox it to obtain a larger surface area for fruiting if you wanted to take an experimental route.

While youre waiting on fruits you could pick up an agar tek. Clone a fruit and move that to grain to begin a new mono tub grow down the road. Eat what comes and progress.

Many things you could do but spawning that to bulk isnt something i would consider.

I used to use similar bags. I always took it out of the bag after it fully colonized, broke it up a little, put it in a foil turkey roasting tray, and fruited in a 54 quart tub. Worked well. Never tried adding more substrate though.
