getting dubtubs to fruit, second attempt

hey guys need some help. First attempt with dubtubs, always used grow bags in the past and decided to try these. I got my wbs jars fully colonized no problem (slurry works so dang fast!) I have 10 6qt dubtubs and they are fully colonized and have been for nearly 3 weeks. One tub pinned but the mushys were short/stunted and not very healthy looking.. I’m thinking maybe they are to dry possibly?? Maybe I should mist or dunk? I’ve never “dunked” before.. I’ll post some pics. I’d appreciate any help

Dude just take that tape off. Dubtubs don’t need mods.
That and dryness are definitely the problem, there should be beads on the myc and the top tub should be wet. I’d mist it then mist the top tub and put it back no tape.
Dubbing isn’t really necessary ime the lid works better until you get shrooms that need more room then dub.
Myc looks pretty healthy.

Room temp is 76, live in Hawaii so it’s humid all the time haha. But no condensation build up, not sure if that’s a problem. My only guess is they need water

I just use lids on my shoeboxes and dub tub after, helps create super humid environment for ultra pin formation and is easy to keep surface conditions on point
Do those have lids you could keep on until/ if mushies grow big enough you need a dubtub? Pic below shows kinda what I mean
And this thread has solid info on keeping your surface conditions perfect

Yeah I have the lids still, they are very loose fitting though. Is that okay?

I added a thread you can check out on surface moisture. It's possible dunking at this point could help it, you could try bottom watering (let water run down the side to the bottom of the sub) let it absorb some for a few hours and pour whatever doesn't absorb out
Or just get a good proper spray bottle and mist it nicely and follow the tek I posted above it has great pictures it is the best thread I've found on surface conditions
I actually use a rubbing alcohol mister I bought at a dollar store that I just refilled with water when it was done, it creates a perfect fine mist, i found the traveler spray bottles that come in little traveler kits at the dollar store to provide a decent mist too, or you can go all out and order a fancy one on amazon, I know some people use those

You've got some knots forming so that's a good sign.

That last picture is knotting, it is almost ready. Yes use the lids until your shrooms are growing and can create their own micro climate and move to the dub.

Getting some action now, thanks everyone! Ive read some people don’t even add holes to their dubtubs, saying that since there isn’t truly an air tight seam around the box holes for FAE aren’t needed. Thoughts?

Nice.
Yeah no need for holes.
I don’t even dub mine unless the shrooms get tall, even with the lid snapped on there’s plenty of air.

1 -2-5 and toss 3&4.
Also why is your dehydrator upside down?

Seems to be dry. A dunk or late casing wouldn’t hurt after it flushes. Seems you have knots just wait it out. You can keep the lid on the main tub until pins are about 1/2 inch in size then dub tub it. I’m wondering if you are losing moisture pre flush.

Well guys they still aren’t grow quite right not sure what I did wrong this was my first dub tub attempt. All the times I used grow bags in the past was so easy and mushrooms grew large. What I’ve managed to get to pop up are no bigger than 2in. There is condensation build up in the dubs which I thought was good. But the substrate has a “tight” look to it or maybe “hard” would be a better word 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ Thinking maybe I should dunk them?

Did you top layer at spawning? I’d say it’s dry. Next round try adding a thin top layer of substrate at spawning.

Yeah this was my first try and I messed up I think by dubbing right from the start, I know for my next round to use the lids first

Next round is ready 😄

They look like they’re good just the conditions are off.
You’ll get the hang of it but next time a top layer and lid and you’ll be set.

Man whatever’s going on with the left side of pic 8 needs to be recreated. I’d grab some clones if you have agar.
What kind are these? Look just like my Burma that I can never get to grow normally.

Ok guys, here is my second attempt. This time I added a layer of coco coir and Verm to the top. I just used the lid for these tubs and did not dub them till this post. I didn’t drill holes in these ones since it’s not really air tight anyway.

Any updates ? 🧐 Trying to see if leaving the lid on and adding the top layer was the answer.
