hey guys! this is my first season and after many hours spent searching through pine forests and bush land up here in northern tas, I finally came across my first cluster in no better place then a mulched garden bed while walking to the shops this afternoon.. 😂 they were all still tiny pins but I took the biggest one for a spore print just to make sure they’re subs.

New account, old forager.
It has been an interesting start to the season, but it is always my favourite time of year! I hope you are all playing safe and being careful out there.

Interesting seeing a few really bad ID requests in this thread so far... Don't know, don't eat it. And please don't rip them out of the ground scissors are your friend.

I have had a slow start to the season, checking out my usual places lower on the mountain. It was too dry last week but is probably worth going out again now if you haven't picked them all yet .
Had an explore at one of my other spots and it was fun to see where subs were popping and not compared to the last few years. They always keep me on my toes the little guys do.

Has anyone had any luck with spore prints in spray bottles to help propagate when hunting?

Always nice to be outside.

Hey Guys, pretty new to the game and this is my first proper season (partook in the last bit of 2019 but had no luck), I've been doing my fair share of research about P.Subs for a while now and have been hunting quite extensively in my local areas.

Due to the current isolation laws, I'm quite restricted in elevation and have been hunting in pine plantations in the south of Tas. The area, based off of multiple sources I've read, seems perfect for wild subs to pop up, all except that these spots are at sea level. I have had no luck and I'm wondering if this is due to the elevation difference between myself and findings posted here. Will waiting for colder weather potentially give me more luck at this level in Tas? Thanks guys  Happy hunting and I'm glad to see all the finds so far, it's getting me quite excited!  Attached are some pictures of some pretty, yet inactive finds in the area so you can get a gist of my hunting area. And an unrelated fairy ring bc that's always lovely.

Hi All. Hope the early season is treating you well.
It’s my first season hunting and so far I’d say it’s going pretty well with a small find in a suburban mulch bed of about 8 fruits and yesterday I found my first wild sub when I was out getting some firewood and stopped by a small rainforest creek I know in the north of the state.

After stumbling across the wild sub while the dog was doing a piss I searched around for an hour thinking there must be more but couldn’t find another pin let alone patch.

So I have a question for the Tassie Guru’s if I can. Is it common to find lone Subs in the bush ? Where you find one there has to be others right !!! Or is it I case of too early in the season up north and bigger flush’s will occur in this area as the season progresses ?

Thanks heaps for any info provided and happy hunting

Nice that you’re finding fungi but make your own thread asking for help on IDs, it clutters the thread and makes it longer than it needs to be, none of those are active.

Make your own thread, IDs arent generally allowed in seasonal threads it’s for actives only, none of the species in your pics are active, good luck out there keep trying.

it hugely depends on the geography of the area, if it was a slope or gully or had a water source nearby and it was a single sub it’s more than likely spores have washed down from a larger patch in rain and it’s been ideal conditions and fruited, that’s just my experience. Have a really good look around the area you found the single one and follow the creeek you may find a heap more.

And i'd like to add that it's probberbly still too early up here in the north for subs to really get into the swing of things.
I'd say in around another 2-3 weeks things should really start to take off.  All we need is the :shroompick: and the temps to drop.

Thanks.
Was a slope in a gully leading down to the creek which is where I found it sitting out by itself growing out of the alpine heath ground cover.
Further exploration of the area required I think

Hi guys,

I’ll post an ID on this a little later today but excited to see what you might think.

Could I have found my first liberty cap? In a cow paddock in the NW.

Hi guys

New to the forum and new to hunting. Thought I might share this little find. Was out and about last week down South and came across these beauts.

Have been out a couple times since but no luck at all.

Can't wait for some rain!
