Poor performance due to lack of FAE and too dry? * 2
    #26540084 - 03/17/20 06:50 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

First time with shoeboxes. I harvested only a handful of mushrooms during the first flush. Soaked for a couple of hours. This is 5 days after that first flush and soak.

Wondering if this looks too dry and maybe not enough FAE.
I've been trying to mist a couple of times a day now. Not sure if I should still be doing that at this stage or not.

Also, does it mean anything that these are growing a much different rates? One mushroom is obviously so far ahead of the others/other pins.

I have 5 shoeboxes, and this one is, sadly, the best one by far.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hei!

Well looking at picture, looks like a good flush is on the way after dunking. May e prior first flush got too dry.

Look for : proper surface conditions

There is a proper explanation about how things should be. Might help you.

Sometimes they come not at same time, cloning and isolating(transferring agar to agar few times) might help with growth coming at same time.

Enjoy your next good flush

You've got some issues in there with aborts.  Its hard to tell how to fix it, but to me it looks very dry.  Does the sub feel light or heavy when you pick it up? if its light, water it from the bottom.  Your surface looks matted….thats either from too much misting or too much FAE.  I'd give it the lightest of misting and a little less FAE.  If the water disappears then you still have too much FAE.

Thanks for the advice.

The substrate has shrunk a lot, so it probably is too dry.
I just watered from the bottom up. I'll occasionally check it to see if it disappears.

I haven't deliberately been giving it any FAE. The shoeboxes are the snap-on lid Sterlite, and I'm keeping them in a closet. The washer, dryer are in the closet, so maybe there's some airflow due to the dryer. I'll try to look closer at that.

Looks like you’ve got some nice clusters coming in.

You should still try to keep the surface with a little beaded water similar to before the first flush.

I bet it turns out really nice, just looks like a few are quicker than the rest.
