Mycellium in Agar Showing Bluing / Light Blue
    #26539299 - 03/16/20 07:42 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Just noticed this plate sitting around that I used for a 3/3 wedge to master grain transfer.

Last pic is back-lit with a bright light so the color change is exaggerated.

What is the significance of the bluing or is it tbe?

That looks like mold to me, thin white whispy hairy shit.

I get that bluing on my older plates, means the myc is stressed, not fatal.
But I think you have mold intertwined with it anyway.

Not great. Plates look like tossers.

Hrm, these wedges are growing in these masters...
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26537353/gonew/1

But the transfers were made well-before any visible signs of mold or bluing. I sure as heck hope I'm not growing out mold over my grains...

Mold can grow intertwined with mushroom? Is it symbiotic or are they completely separate and just in really close proximity to each other?

It can hitch a ride for sure. I think the relationship maybe more parasitic but I'm not a real mycologist so I can't answer this.

I bet Kizzle might know.

Mushrooms and mold are not symbiotic.
But mold grows the same way mushrooms do.
No grain jar is 100% sterile and no syringe is 100% sterile.
That’s why we use agar to keep good cultures going and stay away from mold.
You could still transfer a good agar wedge from a plate that has mold on it as long as the mold has not spored.
