Contamination or starchy water?
    #26538595 - 03/16/20 01:09 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Forgive me, I'm an amateur. I was wondering if this liquid at the bottom of these jars of popcorn is contamination, starchy water, or exudate. I was not observant of the initial appearance of the jars before they were colonized, but i recall them being a little wet as i didn't put vermiculite at the bottom as i usually do. I shook then opened and smelled one of the jars that didn't colonize very well and it was a clean mushroom odour.

All my jars have this wetness which limit the growth of the mycelium toward the bottom of the jar, however no defined border is visible.

UPDATE
I've been watching the jars and I don't beleive this is contamination. The Mycelium is drinking up the liquid and is growing growing throughout the grain, one jar is nearly fully colonized already.
I beleive the starchy water came about after the jars froze and the corn freeze dried, exuding starchy water.

That's wet-spot contamination, my friend.

Thanks alot! Do you think it's because my jars froze one night? I had them in a incubator which I had to return to the owner on the eve of a nasty windstorm.
Also are there many contaminants which are odourless like this?
