A Recommendation - Expect Service Interruptions
Dear friends: There is quite some turmoil in the world today, the Year of the Red Rooster is upon us, and symbolic of that, in charge of the most crucial chicken coop of the world, the grainery of the world, is the cockiest cock of them all, a rooster so cocky and so red that the skin of his face gets as close to red, well, orange! as a human's can possibly get.
Do not despair, but expect the unexpected. In this particular case I want to recommend all who read this to not panic but to take rational preventive measures in case of societal service interruptions.
In concreta: I call on you to take into your house food, drink, supplies and money to tide you over at least 2 weeks and preferably one month without reliance on stores, municipal water, electricity, gas for your car or functional cash machines to withdraw money from.
What do you need in 2 weeks to sustain yourself and your family? Make rational choices and shop for bargains and shelf life. Rice is a lot cheaper in the big bag, which you can store in a sealable foodgrade bucket, which you can get for free at fast food places. Knackebrot crackers, peanut butter, canned foods, a case of beer, bottled water. A first aid kit. You don't need a LOT you just need a bit of several things you need. Don't forget toilet paper and plastic bags if sanitation doesnt work. No water, no flush. Think. Get some cash in small bills so you can make change.
It doesnt have to be much. It doesnt have to be for ten years. The world is not coming to an end but there may be brief interruptions of service in society.
If people make a rush to the stores, the stores are empty in a single day. You do NOT want to rush to the stores when everybody does, you want to stay at home on that day with your family and your supply. If the interruption is only short you will not just have enough for your family but enough to help friends and loved ones too. Instead of a victim sheep you can be a good shepherd and help the ones around you in a time of need.
Nobody has supplies. Not the stores, not the gas station, not the pharmacy, nobody has supplies anymore, they all expect there to be daily deliveries of goods. What if they don't come for a few days? Riots. You want to stay indoors or bug out in that case.
Buying in bulk is cheaper. You can save on your grocery bills and have the luxury of a little supermarket in your home in case of unexpected situations or unexpected houseguests.
Expect the unexpected. Be prepared. Do NOT live in fear, live in the COMFORT of KNOWING that YOU PROVIDED FOR YOUR FAMILY.
Don't be a fool, spend wisely, the world will not end but there may be brief interruptions in supplies in society.
The Mormons (LDS Church) are a branch of the Christian faith who believe that the end is near and that we should prepare. Me I think those times have not yet come, but the LDS did make a free preparedness manual that you can download and leaf through to read more about being prepared for calamity. There is little religious talk and much very sensible advice without too much preaching and scaremongering. Download it here, you don't have to read it now, but if the Internet should go down you'll be glad you did save a copy: LDS Preparedness Manual (PDF)
You can find a brief shopping list and some recommendations in my journal entry here: PPREPAREDNESS - Asante's 1 month home survivability recommendation Make sure to also grab a copy of BUSHDOCTOR and USARMY (these are direct downloads of .pdf files here on the Shroomery)
Don't go all prepper nut, its not necessary. You simply buy peace of mind and vital goods for yourself and loved ones. Even in case of an unexpected party, or when everybody has the flu, you'll be glad you don't have to make a store run, and you'll save money on expenses too.
Feel free to share this with friends in any way you see fit, I dont care who gets credit, just do what you think is sensible to do.
Rational choices in uncertain times.
I Love You All

A case of beer? For two weeks? You meant two days right?
