Habitat: Where does it grow? Growing straight from the ground in damp conditions near pine trees and eucalyptus.
Cap: in pic
Stem: in pic
Bruising: seems to be on stem
Other information: Scent of the mushroom: strong mushroom smell.
Hey guys,
I found these near lake Macquarie (near Newcastle) and was wondering on the species. Information on edibility and whether it's psychoactive would be Great!
Thanks!

The mushrooms are great. The mushrooms are fine. Give me them with lashings of wine.

Looks like a decent candidate for panaeolus cinctulus to me. Could be something different given your geographical location

Not pan cyans unless they bruise blue, possibly pan cinc, but more than likely inactives.

How can you tell they are inactive? I thought the pan cinc doesn't really turn blue and most specimens are active. That's what I've read anyways lol

thats panealous cinctulus. cant expand last two pics those might be different. take spore prints
pan cincts will rarely bruise blue just barely on the bottom of stipe but i usually find that twisted reddish stipe to be a better identifying characteristic. youll get it
i love you guys be good

I didn't say it wasn't pan cinc, said it didn't look like it to me. No not all pans are active i do not know where you have heard that. lol. And was it growing in lawn or pine and eucalypt, you've now said both? Makes a big difference to help ID.

Lol! I'll try to find the link although I trust you guys much more! No I wrote, Growing straight from the ground in damp conditions near pine trees and eucalyptus. Then I though you probably need the information about the grass. Lol, I thought you needed technology for a spore print hence why I didn't provide one lol. Learning a lot everyday! Thanks everyone for your help π

A LOT of pan species leave black spore prints, do not rely on that for ID. And yes, direct substrate is needed for correct ID's. Pan. cinc grow in straw, manure, or well-fertilised lawns. There are still pan cyans around the area, you would be better off concentrating on them until you get more experience with ID'ing other species that are more difficult. Pan cinc are also rather weak generally.

Oh for sure. I thought that's why the cinc would be good for a slight trip and nothing too intense.

Again, a lot of pan species leave black spore prints. I'm not saying it's not p. cinc. but I'm just saying there are a lot of similar species and traits among the pan sp. I have a pan papilionaceous print here that looks identical to what you have posted, and both it and pan ant. also leave the same black sporeprint.

Ahhh...ok. I'm just glad they aren't lethal so it won't hurt to try. Can you please post the pic of the spores?

these are what i would call classic lawn dwelling pan cinctulus. there may be a handful of mildly active pans hiding under that name. twisted white striated fibrous stem turning darkish red with handling. the cap color and texture is spot on. gills too.
liberty caps are psilocybe species. most psilocybes i can think of have nipples. i knew this chick nipples are great very greatfulQuote:
