ive been cruising youtube for a good ten years now and there seems to be an increase in youtube mycologists. i find some of it helpful and some extremely redundant, basically filming themselves doing teks that have been on here for 15 years.
What do you guys think? good for the community, bad, neutral?
it seems like the perfect route for some people i know who will never get on the shroomery because theyre lazy and simple, and want one-line solutions in minimal time. i feel that the shroomery is a much deeper and vast source of info.

Earth angel mushrooms. Myers mushrooms.
In terms of CUBES, all anyone needs is RRs let's grow mushroom series. Every thing is so basic it is very stupid that (even here) we have like 100 ways to hydrate coir. Like wow add water in the right amount and mix.
The thing is it's a range from retardation to professional. Anyone growing 2 tubs can make a video like they are a pro.
Then you get people saying you need three buckets or insulated coolers swished out with hot water to hydrate coir, then noobs who don't know better repeat it and then get results and think they know that THAT is the way, when really there was some pointless personal spin thrown in there for no reason.
More info is better but I more so suggest finding the one or two best growers you can see are actually growing a lot and not just the one with videos and emulate their methods (of which there is nothing groundbreaking).
Problem is it's 1 or 2 out of like 500. That's my take. Most of it is just muddying the waters. Stick to shroomery.

so true. it reminds me of weed growing back in the day, a bunch of people with zero horticulture knowledge believing literally ANYTHING a person says about growing weed, as if its not a plant like any other.
same with fungus, its seems like if someone says you gotta grab your dick and do three cartwheels while spawning a tub then there would be people who swear you will fail without it. its annoying to me, but then again i work in a lab as a profession
youtube mycologoly is like using google maps to take the longest most inefficient route to your destination.

i also find it aggrivating to be a person with a couple years of experience and proven success but my homie who is just starting ignores EVERYTHING i say and persues an expensive online double boiler type grow kit with pf tek from the late 90s.....its rather insulting and makes me wanna let them just fuck up on their own. like sure, lets ignore years of experience and multiple references to this site so you can contam some store bought PF. DUMB.

I literally remember watching a kid doing a "how to inoculate a 3lb grain bag"
He literally put the bag on the kitchen counter..wiped the IP with iso, inserted the spore syringe in open air and injected.
"Thats all there is to it guys"
In the comments 100 people: "cant wait to try this"
My thoughts? HA! Whatever go right ahead. I dont give a damn.

Lol yeah Iโve experienced this a couple times, not with mushcult but other things. Gotta say I enjoy when they crash and burn sometimes if it was something particularly stupid.

Yea i don't get people like that. It took me a couple hours of reading here to make sense of what to do. Gotta weed out all the old tek and weird additions or reposted old tek so it looks new... There is some decent videos to browse on utube as well.

I've been seeing YouTube as a "everyone wants to be a Bob Villa" these days haha. But the newer generation usually opts for having someone show them visually vs. Actual reading and discussing. And YouTube is usually the initial source for "how to" stuff. Vs. the older generation who grew up with books and face to face interaction who opt for actual resources and places to discuss everything in general. And seem to have a bit more patience in life for the most part. ๐. Just my 2ยข.

You nailed it in your op man. I think it was Richard Feynman that said something along the lines of everything is fascinating if you dig deep enough. If you look into the details of how and why hard enough, everything is complex and wonderful but some people just don't care to look. I have tons of hobbies that I've tried to get friends into. Not this one, cuz I just don't talk much about it. But I try to explain why this is the coolest thing ever people just don't see it. They look at a plant and see a plant not a root structure drawing nutrients from soil with organic matter being broken down by microorganisms. They look at a 3D printer and say oh cool you make plastic things, they don't see the hours of g code and programming and setting stepper motors and bed leveling and belt tensioning. Or wood working and see a cool chest, not the designing, and measuring and making hardware for secret compartments and piecing everything together just right. And if they do these things seem tedious and boring to them. The same applies here. Some people don't care to look and if they do it just seems like too much work. For me, and I feel like most of us here, this is part of the fun the learning, in exchange of knowledge. The personal and community growth. The knowing why the mycelium is growing well not just asking if it is.

When i first got into all of this willymyco was the only one i could find on youtube. I know i know.
Then i got a blue oyster kit from my local homedepot and ordered a grow kit from a site sponcer.
With out willymyco is still have no idea about any of this.
Now there are many good video resources.
Everyone has to start somewhere

I started here, but it did take a couple weeks of daily reading to figure out what was what. There really isn't a single source out there to learn correctly from. The books I have, although good, are more overviews of the process. Im not sure there is a better place than the shroomery to learn sterile technique and petri work.

Yeah man knowing why things do what they do lets you fully understand and tweak things rather than just learning how to do something with no deeper knowledge of it.
