Isolating clones

So when you clone a fruiting body you can isolate sectors and transfer until you get monocultures of each sector. Then fruit them out to see how they grow. Is it actually worth isolating sectors or can you just grow out the original clone mycelium?

Sure,
let's say you clone a fruit tissue and end up with a culture with say, 5 clear sectors.
Why not transfer out each sector, put each transfer to 2 grain jars, then grow 5 x 2quart shoeboxes
Then you can use the same substrate recipe and grain prep tek, and you can measure the end weight of each shoebox.
Then, once you've discovered the most successful culture, return to the culture on agar, expand it again, and save a transfer in a master slant.
To me this is the coolest part of Mycology
If you don't wanna #doitfortheculture then yeah you could just put the original sectored clone culture to grain and get the same results, but that wouldn't be nearly as fun

I totally agree with you just curious on why it's best to isolate. I'm super excited to work through a clone and find a winner. Same as popping seeds growing cannabis and finding the best pheno.
I've got my hepa coming for my flow hood so that will be built soon, cant wait to be self sufficient by having my own isolates and constantly grow!

Isolate isn’t always best, unless you happen to get great genetics. The more isolated the more consistent and uniform the shrooms will be, but you can end up getting a lot of slow/low yield/weak potency cultures too.
Idk if this is the correct way to look at it, but I think of ms as an average of all the genetics so it’ll almost always be decent potency and speed. When you only grab one set of genes its still likely to be pretty average, but way more likely than ms to be extremely above or below.
