First brf cakes (hawaii)
    #26535796 - 03/15/20 01:35 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

hi guys😊

A month ago I inoculated my first 8 jars.
4 jars are 70-95% colonized by now, 3 jars are maximum 20% colonized and the last jar  isnt colonized at all. Can I do something to accelerate the process? And how could it be that the difference is so big?

A lot of factors can come into play such as a spore syringe with not enough spores, incorrect PF mixture, cold temps.

Without pics, its hard to say whats going on.

Interesting.

It seems like the muycelium is concentrating on the area it colonizes. Not sure why. The substrate might be a little too wet but from the photos it looks pretty good. Whats your ambient temps in your place?

looks like cream cheese to me (bacteria)... which would explain the slow growth.

colour-wise all of them look the same.
Are they all garbage then? :/
Room temps varies from 70 to 75

I’m not super experienced with cakes but the one pic that loaded does have a thick bacterial look.

If it’s stopped growing it’s probably trash but if it does manage to finish colonizing won’t hurt to try fruiting. Or maybe just open the lid and put a bag on and try topfruiting.

from the side it actually looks as if the mycelium has only developed on the glass and not towards the middle of the jar, just flat like a pancake. is there any chance that it will colonize fully? at least half of the glasses look fine to me, but you suggest that the colour of the mycelium looks contaminated?

This is this the only brf pic I’ve got, but with healthy myc you can usually see the individual fingers/hairs or it looks fuzzy.

Sometimes bacteria makes the myc get a thick solid look to it like your op. To me it always looks rubbery but other people say cream cheese or melting ice cream.

Thanks😊 should the "hairy" part be omnipresent or just present in some of the jar? Guess this one looks fine then?

there are some parts of a few of the jars that looks a bit fuzzy and a bit yellow'ish, the rest is white as snow.

Are they just waste or is it worth giving it a shot in my new shotgun chamber?

Yeah they look suspect. But I wouldn't throw them out. It could be genetics. Put them in a box and shove them into the back of the closet for 3 weeks. Check again then. If it is mycelium it will catch up. If not you will know. I would sit on these and start a fresh batch.

open all of the jars and place them inside a closed box without any holes in it? without the dry verm from the top of the jars I guess?
