I'm sorry I didn't explain myself better. I knew that perlite was on the bottom of the fuiting chamber. How do i mix it?

You don't really have to mix it up. Just pour the perlite out on the bottom. About 1-2 thick. Then spray it until it's moist.

Remember not to breath the dust.

You don't need to spray it very often. Just make sure it is moist.

hi,
what i do with my perlite is:

1. i get a bowl.
3. i put the perlite in the bowl.
6. i fill the bowl with water.
7. i strain the water off using a colander until no water drips anymore.
42. then i just spread about an inch or so in the bottom of the terrarium.

simple:)

You can use the perlite in the casings. Just make a sandwich casing with the perlite on the bottom, the broken apart mycelium, and the casing layer on top. It's mentioned in the Psylocibe: MMGG.

Hiroller, have you ever tried perlite in your casing? Why would you want perlite in you casing. It's not needed.

I've used perlite in my casings before. It seemed to help with gas exchange a bit, but it was nothing special. The most annoying thing with using perlite in the casing soil is that it makes it much harder to judge mycelial growth. Especially if you don't grind up the perlite into a powder first (which I did upon my second trial).

Overall, it was nothing special and even though it did seem beneficial, I hate messing with perlite so I'm willing to do without it.

It is, however, used in the aforementioned P-MMGG by the McKenna brothers. The use of perlite on the bottom was provided for "drainage" and was partially wetted. Perlite was used because of it doesn't harbor contaminants as much as other materials (i.e. vermiculite/peat moss).
