First time grower but confused about growth
    #26534046 - 03/14/20 07:03 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

[embed=,] [/embed]This is my very first time growing mushrooms. I'm worried because I have 1 jar doing really well and 1 jar that just started showing very little fuzzy today. Maybe it's mycelium maybe it's just condensation. The other jars are pretty much looking the same. So that's a possible 2/6 but a definite 1/6 jars. It has only been 6 days. What if the growth rate is so drastically different that I have to take 1 cake out before the rest or is that even a cake?
Should I wait for them all to catch up?
Or leave the other ones behind?

I assume that you knocked them up with spores? Spores can take up to two weeks to germinate. I'm not sure what you mean by "leaving them behind". If you mean tossing them, then i would wait. If you mean birthing them, then... you can birth them as they finish. No problem there.

What size jar is that?

Growth looks good but I guess those taller ones sometimes stall before finishing.

It’s ok if some finish faster, just leave them to consolidate until they’re all ready. I recently had a jar that was 100 days old and it’s fine.

Each cake will be done at its own rate patience is key in this hobby and if you dont get any germination in a jar after 2 weeks you can re sterilize it!! then add new spores to it instead of throwing out a perfectly good spawn. I'd definitely use 1/2 pint jars next time cakes tend to stall in larger jars especially when it is multi-spore innoc You can get small plastic pp5 1/2 pint at dollar store like 4 for a dollar and they work fine also I've used almost every shape and size they have to offer lol

Thank you for the replies, yes I meant throwing the out. But if you say it's ok to leave them until the rest catch up then that's what I'll do. Thank you. I will also consider half pint jars next time.

Let them do their thing, no need to keep them in that box, let them breathe and give them a 12 / 12 hr  light cycle.  If one of the jars gets ahead of the others, you can put it in the fridge and slow down the timeline, good luck!!
