I was wondering how things are going over there. I've been on the boat in Alaska since January, but we head back to Seattle in about week for summer break. From what I've seen on CNN, everything looks shut down. I'm kinda trying to think of what my travel plans will be. Gotta head from the shipyard thru the Downtown transit area near the McDonald's on pike street and pike place market. Not so sure if I should ride the bus, take an uber, rent a car, buy a plane ticket. Not sure if it's safe or not. I wanna get a surgical mask for whenever I hit the streets, but dont know where to go or what I should do before stepping off the boat. Dispite my plans to wanna travel, I probably will make way towards Texas. Corona virus has fucked everything up. What's going on down there? Are business still open?

Seattle is one of the epicenters of the virus in the US. I would avoid if all possible!

You should go to China. They’re the only country that’s safe.

Who ever really knows what's going on in China tbh, but maybe getting the fuck beaten out of you by police for not taking necessary precautions is a good tactic

I'm not in Seattle but I am relatively close. Washington state is currently a mess, lots of school closings, business closings. If you come back here and go out much at all you are likely to catch Corona. You also will have a hard time finding toilet paper, or isopropyl alcohol. I would definitely not ride the bus.

Not surprised. It's like that over here in the boston-dc corridor too. Any moderately sized population center is a mess right now. Luckily they seem to be ramping up testing finally, they're opening up tons of standalone testing centers where you can get screened online or via telephone first, and then go to in order to get tested. At least they are in my area.

Not possible. Our home port is in Seattle. We dock just north of downtown. No way around it unfortunately. We leave Alaska in about a week. I have to uber or take public transportation in the least to get to the airport or anywhere. I have no choice. It is a little concerning
This whole mess happened after we came here in January. Haven't been back yet

I'm a little nervous about going thru downtown. I'm still not sure whether to fly or drive. Renting a car is gonna be around 800$ flying around 200$. I might need to stay in a motel a few days. Idk if any are open. Still having network issues. Am I taking this a bit far or should I be worried. I've been isolated from the rest of world since January. idk what to expect. I dont wanna get sick. Anxiety level isnhigh

Some motels are currently open but the Governor is talking about shutting them down so they might not be by the time you get here.

Thanks for the reply. It's hard not knowing what to expect. this is a highly unusual situation. I dont think anyone in Texas is gonna want to chill. I'm debating buying that Hyundai , just seems like alot of money. might be the quickest , easiest way without being exposed thou. Or maybe I'm just freaking out

If you are reasonably young and healthy it's not likely to be that bad if you do catch it.

If you are young you probably won’t die. ~20% of people who get this end up in hospital. Age doesn’t matter. Old people just don’t fare as well being that sick. Without a functioning healthcare system about 8% across all ages will die. You don’t want to catch this it is much worse than the flu.
