Looks like we've got some rain coming up. Let's hope there's at least another flush or two this season. Everyone do the rain dance

We've had a good few millimetres here in the hills over the past couple of days, at long last. How long do you guys usually wait for flushes after the rains? I guess it's hard to know after such a long dry spell.

^^ I'm curious as well, is it like 3-7 days after a good rain we can find some good fruit?
I haven't managed to get out for a hunt this season but we're about to get a good week of rain

What day do you think they'll come out? How long does it take for them to start pinning after a period of no rain and then rain like we've had?

Hopefully this next flush makes up for a very dry last month. Good luck to you all 🍄

had a lazy quick look around a very popular southern spot after last weeks rain and didn't find anything.
Has anyone here done a DMT extraction from local acacias? I think I've found a few that might be A. longfolia and I'm keen to try out my rusty chemistry skills on the phyllodes (not the bark because they don't seem that common around here and I don't want to kill them)

Ah yes the south is toast. Only managed to find a dozen pickable mushrooms in there last week. See the pine dust on them... On a side note forestry sa has been logging the area pretty hard and i found some marked trees at a really prolific spot, might not be there come next season..

My last hunt down there resulted in only 2 finds and they were beyond mank. A poor return for a 7km hike if you ask me. Not many mushrooms of any kind really.
Maybe the north is the go, not my region.
A.longifolia in full bloom down here and was thinking same thing as sausages.

yep southern spots have been very slim for any kind of mushroom activity now and yep also to noticed the extra forrestry logging. I have seen many marked trees and noticed track upgrades around some of the best spots so brace yourself folks.

as PN says the South is the place to be late in the season. August is a great time to hunt and September isn't too shabby either just a bit more leg work to do. My latest finds in the South have been at the end of October. Mid November for P.alutacea.
Here's a few from today.

Great stuff as always Bob. I was wondering if anyone was going to post in this thread again with the dry weather last month!
I've got a few photos from when I last hunted around back in May. I'd also started hunting inactive edibles, which is ridiculously fun and rewarding! There were Saffies everywhere earlier in the year, and I even found the elusive Porcini. The smaller Porcini I either gave away or cooked myself, and the larger one I sliced and dried, absolutely amazing in pastas and soups.

The edibles

After May, I went to KI for a month. I was wandering around in some unburnt scrub out west, and came across a mystery mushroom. It was much bluer in real life, the cap was slightly larger than a 50c piece, and white underneath. Honestly so much fungi growing in this area, hopefully the burnt areas recover soon

Hopefully this rain kicks off one last flush, good luck everyone.
Edit: Also sausages, Longifolia is a pest wattle in most of SA aside from coastal areas in the south east. As long as you've got a positive ID on the plant, don't be afraid of lopping a few down
Edit2: I've identified the mystery brown and blue mushroom as Xerula Australis.

So i went for a look in a different part of a semi-familiar area yesterday. All up i trekked just over 10kms in 5 hours and found 10 subs in good enough condition to warrant a pick. Was pretty cool seeing some new terrain and vistas along the way without a soul to be seen. Never seen so many Laccaria sp. And spider holes too!!

Amazing pics all around! Cheers for the tips re: A. longifolia, the one near me is growing over a fence from private property into parkland and I've helped myself to a limb without destroying it's aesthetic appeal. I've driven past what appears to be a substantial number of them in the hills in some areas, mostly on private land or frontages outside of people's homes which I won't touch, but some near the freeway that look like fair game, though a closer inspection is needed to verify their identity. I've gotten almost all the supplies for an extraction, and will be following the all-aussie Lextek with the material I've collected.
It looks like I won't be able to get out mushroom hunting again for the rest of the season, shit's getting busy but for all the right reasons. Have fun and stay safe!

Make sure to properly ID the Acacia before you do anything. There's more than 900 species of Acacia in Aus and depending on where you are A. longifolia is not likely to be very common. Acacias aren't really my specialty but feel free to post a few close up pics and I'm happy to try and ID them.

I don't know how reliable (if at all) A.longifolia is for an extraction, but there is plenty of A.floribunda out there and I have always found them to be a reliable source .
Also that tek calls for 2 Kg of starting material. I would suggest downscaling to 200 - 500g max if it is your first time doing an extraction. There is a good chance that you might botch some steps and end up wasting your materials....besides DMT is potent stuff and its not like you need a lot of it to blast off. Another thing, don't get discouraged if your end product turns out to be goo instead of crystals when it comes to acacia. It's still contains the good stuff and can be used as it is, it's just a bit trickier and messier to work with is all.

Cheers for the support and advice! I wasn't going to start with 2 kilos, and the whole lextek thing has been heavily questioned. I'm getting what sounds like some good pointers over at the dmt nexus. It also sounds like it's worth waiting until mid-summer for higher yields. While I am aiming for crystals instead of goo this is more about just experimenting and practicing rather than any sort of focus on production. brk I'll take that offer for ID help and appreciate your input, while I've managed to avoid poisoning myself so far in my mushroom hunting, at this stage it's clear I lack the trained scientific eye for detail that some have worked hard to develop.
Here's what I've found in my neighbourhood:
Suspected A. longifolia Specimen 1 (I harvested a branch from this one already hopefully it's not just wishful thinking )

Specimen 2

Specimen 3

Suspected A. floribunda

Suspected A. maidenii

I've also posted these in the nexus acacia ID thread as well which seems to get a response most times, if I get confirmation or not I can share that here too. If this counts too much as an ID request in the seasonal thread I'm happy to remove it and send a PM instead. At this stage I have everything I need to give an extraction a try. Hooray for science!
