I'd say if you found any at Wirrabara you would also want to go and buy a lottery ticket that same day haha Anything is possible mate, I'd be very surprised if anyone has found any there

Thats a pretty shit thing to say, unless you live up that way and have been looking you dont know. Subs have been found in Queensland so, Wirrabara isnt ridiculous.
Any native forest or pine plantation that gets 15-20mm in a couple days is fair game. Just got to look good, and look at the right time.

Another mission, more photos, all deep south, in the drizzle.
Left to right.
Suspected P. Alutacea, sub with a mouth, sub with a tiny spider mite, sub with a teardrop.
First sub from a grassy patch i started last year..

Semi wavy caps

Droopy caps

I was looking at this one for ages in this light, it looked so magical at the time.. tripping whilst photographing

Are we reaching the end of the season in the central hills or has it just been bad weather this past week? I went for a short walk this afternoon and the few subs I saw were pretty manky; obviously a few days old. That goes for most other species too, it didn't look like there had been much mycological activity at all recently.
Everything was completely sodden, so maybe the ground needs to dry a bit before mushies come up, I dunno. I was tripping (heh) over them when I was there a month ago and it was fairly wet then too.

Well as a fact I am from there, I grew up in that forrest. I have and do walk that forest often at all times of the year. I am sure I said anything is possible but I would be surprised if any were found there, I also think I said buying a lotto ticket the same day because it would be damn lucky to find them there. I am not quite sure which thing said was shit but I will keep on reading to find it. Sure it gets rain like any part of the world but does it get heavy fast constant rain like the south or Adelaide Hills? It doesn't. Stranger things have happened in this world, which is why I didn't say its impossible. But what would I know, I am only from there after all 😂✌

Hey gang, how long does mushroom season usually last in the Adelaide Hills? How late is too late to expect to find anything?

Different kind of looking.
One of the cardboard tacos from sub roots about 4 weeks ago. Tacos went into big tubs.

Went hunting today, found significantly less than usual. Still found a few and the scenery was stunning. Though there was some new litter around the well known area. Found this guy among other subs and wavy caps.
I was down south so there was no fog while I was out, but driving out and back in to the city there was that beautiful fog.

Its varies i think, but mid-August would be about closing time.

Anyone had any luck lately? It was pouring early season, but lately there's been barely any rain. Hopefully we get more soon, doesn't look like much is coming in the next 10 days

I didn't have much luck on the last outing on Tuesday. Not sure if it had been picked before me, since it is a known area or just lack of growth. I have a feeling the warm weather might be hindering growth though.

I went out on Friday. Found a decent amount but most were dried a bit. Definetly in the peak of the season as i found them on south facing slopes and under exposed gumtrees. Should hopefully be another 2 flushes if theres some good rains

God damn there has been almost no rain lately. Why's this winter so dry? Surely the season hasn't ended yet, it's not even August

Maybe mother nature is doing a dry july in 2020..
FWIW these are the boms Mt Lofty rainfall totals this year..
Jan: 61.2mm Feb: 66.4mm March: 9.6mm April: 119.2mm May: 117.8mm June: 167.2mm July: 41.0mm (to date)
Total: circa 590mm
Read into that what you will.
Happy hunting!

A couple of pics from yesterday. Was down in the deep south in the pines. Found a few, but mostly drying out. There were a few good specimens still around though.
