Cheers. Been so busy lately, it was good to get out and even better to find something straight away. I strongly suspected that was a P. Alutacea but I didn't pick it. First alutacea for me

Big ol' hunt Sunday just past - here are some photos.

It's been a few years since I've frequented this forum - seems the community has grown  Way to go SA!. Bobwastaken: This Magic Mushrooms SA - Hunters Guide was a great read fascinating - cheers for putting that together!

Awesome pic of them growing out of the pine cone

I am curious about Psilocybe Alutacea after finding one the other day. I've only been a member for a couple of years but I've come and gone checking this site out for probably 15 years now. I've only seen alutacea popping up here the past couple of years, and seemingly increasingly. Is it becoming more common, or just  more recognised? I'd also like to know what its like to consume. Has anyone ever collected enough to have a purely alutacea trip, and how does it compare to subs?

They've always been there, we just never noticed. Not sure who (or if anybody) has tried them here.

I have tried them and commented on cultivated specimens in this thread.

I hear wild specimens are much less potent. The species has a remarkably close doppelganger in Deconica coprophila. Past finds were discounted as this inactive dung lover. P.alutacea is probably more widespread than P.subaeruginosa in Australia and can be found in very arid regions.

More wide spread?? wowzers! I would still love to find them, have had lots of luck with subs this year in a few spots but still no alutacea :frown: (or active gyms). would be so cool to find em. anyone got any tips?

EDIT: just read through that thread you linked bob about alutacea cultivation, so awesome to see the progression and how well you got them to fruit, such nice pics. I also saw you mentioned that the cultivated specimens were "VERY" potent even compared subs which is super interesting. do you think that is just because they were cultivated or also because of strain isolaion? Ill have to make a culture if i ever do find them.

Anyways went down south the other week to the pine forest with the intention of scoping out some potential new spots, but went to old faithful first and ended up spending the whole day there. There were just so many nice specimens could bare to leave, walked away with almost 200 and there were still lots around! camera died 20 mins in tho.. managed to grab some pics:

subs next to some deadly trickster galerina

Hit up a side-of-the-road spot yesterday too, had some nice finds. First spot i ever found em still producing

I'm struggling. First year, searching Mt Crawford. So far only Deconica coprophila and Galerina marginata.

There are random people on the facebook groups offering advice and spots to strangers, but none of them have replied to me. Can anyone throw me a rough direction in Mt Crawford?

Love you guys, this forum is unbelievably helpful and sensitive.

My first season i didnt find any subs, second season it took me til august, third season i found em early june and then i was dialled in, found heaps, picked waay too many. This year is season 4 and i've found them in so many different places and in large numbers but ive hardly picked any. I guess if your really into mushroom finding it can be a bit of an apprenticeship.

Persistence pays off in the end.

Here is a cute little pine cone I found in my last walk in the forest. I see a few other people have found some magic pine cones as well. Does any one know if mushrooms from pine cones can cause wood lovers paralysis? I left them just in case.

This season has been awesome so far! Hope everyone else is getting a good crop and walks.

Peace

Wood lover paralysis?? Why would them growing out of a pine cone gibe you more chance then if they were to just grow from pine needle?
What is this wood lover paralysis you speak of 😂

Search around the edges of pine forests where it meets Australian bush. I've barely seen them inside, they're usually around the edges where there's long grass or other foliage that creates a moist microclimate. Usually the inside of the forest is too dry.

Also, Mt Crawford is huge, there's lots of forests split up from it that are far away from the main forest. Go to those places instead of the main one because there will be less people.

Hey Faty,

I have been foraging for a few years now and had never heard of wood lovers paralysis until quite recently. It's common with magic mushrooms that grow on wood. The azurescensus mushroom that grows only on wood apparently always causes some form of the paralysis. It's not limited to this species though from what I have read. I have not experienced the paralysis myself but there are plenty of stories of it on the internet if you have a google. Anyway I don't pick subs that grow on wood anymore for that reason.

All subs grow on wood.
They require it to grow.

From what I understand and ime it takes a substantial amount to star getting the affect.

Is it possible to burn subs and ruin the potency?

Gave my fresh subs to a friend of mine to dehydrate since my dehydrator shat itself, he must have had it too hot and they have come out like this, very black.
