hey guys!
so after some lurking and patience... I've found my first little batch! I had almost given up this afternoon on my walk with the dogs, it was almost dark but still enough light to see, I sat for a rest and just to be still... my dog went through a fence and was running around in a field next to the forest, which was full of bracken fern! (I read they love bracken fern and in the forest I was in there was none!) and sure enough! I went through and found these on the outskirts... not the best pictures! but nevertheless
also! what would everyones recommendation be for consuming? sorry I hope that is allowed to ask! and thank you also to all of the really thorough advice on here as well as general encouragement.... its definitely an experience that goes beyond words and im glad I've embarked! ... also an update:ive since attempted to get a spore print however nothing happened? someone on the id request said that they look sterile, would this be the reason?
any advice would be helpful... thank you!!!

Congrats n welcome 😊 They don't look sterile to me?How long did you leave them to print?? Leave em overnight, and put a drop of water on the centre of each cap when u leave them (i use a wooden skewer to drop the water bead). This'll tell the shrooms its a good time to drop spores and you'll deffo get prints from those caps.

Hey guys does anyone have any idea on what would cause these spots to grow on the cap of this mushroom? Found 4 or 5 of the 100 or so that I picked that had the same spotted print, just wondering if still okay to dry out and consume?

monster hunting only and observing anomalous specimens since I have literally picked enough subaeruginosa for 3 years now lol

these were pine forest specimens, biggest caps were running between 7-8cm. which I considered pretty impressive...
boy was I wrong
my lord did I discover some genetic freaks today,

When I say genetic freaks I mean 11cm Caps and 26cm Stipes, fucking insanity. I know they can go up to 15cm or so but damn was I excited by todays finds. The patch contained about 25 subs, what I picked will go towards spore water and colonize cardboard and be spread around wherevs
last but not least some holy gyms and some locals

Gorgeous finds. You may find some even larger monsters as the season starts to wind up. Looks like you're having an exceptional season.

I may have found P.tasmaniana in the Hills. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26741080 If so it's been a long time coming. A decade of searching actually.

Jezus bob anybody wanting to re write the list of obtainable species would have few better than yourself to talk to.
For reference ladies and gentleman (Whilst this is not yet studied to the confirmation stage it's looks like it might) bob has in the last few year successfully identified a few species of Psyclobe that were previously thought not be here.
It's a hell of an achievement if you think about the amount of ppl and effort that also have been out n about.
He's also successfully cultivated and then sent said spore around the world if I'm not mistaken.
We are lucky to have him in Sa.
Bob.

some amazing finds from everyone, its nice to have a place to share all this and I am very grateful for those that have contributed here in anyway.
I have been out when I can over the last few weeks, I am feeling very lucky that I found what I need for the year already as there are a lot of pickers around. I have visited spots that I left a lot behind at and now there is none left and plenty of evidence of people. I dont own the spots and no one owns the subs so I just count myself blessed that I got enough when I did and I still enjoy heading out and getting amongst it anyway. The hike itself is always therapy, I have seen an echidna this year and heaps of bird life. One highlight was sitting having a sandwich on a tree stump and then being surrounded by fairy wrens for a few minutes, thats magic in itself I reckon.
I remembered to take a few pictures and I did pick a few mushrooms in places that I thought it was sustainable and never cleared a whole area. I found a few really caramel capped pins that looked pretty gnarley, I reckon someone else would have got a good score a few days after the pic was taken.

The droplet tek worked really well in regards to getting a nice dark spore print in a timely manner.
Happy hunting folks

I have been searching since start of season, read every page, studied areas on google maps and I still can’t find any. What am I doing wrong? Any tips? So close to throwing in the towel. The weight loss from the walking has been welcome though!

Damn Bob some wikid finds there. I've seen similar looking what I assumed to be subs before, does that species exhibit much bruising usually?
Got quite the backlog of photos to go through from this season, but damn what a start it has been. Been offline for nearly a month but can finally upload some.
Plenty of photographs being shared from SA this season which is great to see. Thanks to everyone for contributing.
A.muscaria

P.alutacea

Growing from cattle dung these ones. Seemed much more robust than the alutacea I normally see but they definitely showed bruising. I don't think they could be anything else?

P.subaeruginosa

An amazing patch of exposed mycellium freshly pinning. Unsure if the host material was broken apart by a kangaroo or a person given it seems to be quite a popular area. Originated from what looked to be a log.

This weekend I walked with shrooms. Well, with good shroom tea. An eye-opening experience, thank you to all the guys who help out and provide info here.
Have posted detailed Lvl 3 trip report with exact prep and dosage details so the next soul has information about the journey.

Hey guys, any tips for a novice? Tried a few spots in the hills and kuitpo and had no luck, varied the environments from pine to native but just a lot of lookalikes! Been down on the ground looking through grass and in mulch but no luck. Pointers?
