Check out OOISI's and my guide in our signatures if you haven't already. There really isn't any more you need to know just put in the leg work and you'll be rewarded. The season hasn't peaked with new patches waking up each week further increasing chances of finds.
Great finds all. Love that flush of 40 OOISI! and congrats on the first porcini Frunco. I found a bunch of them in an area nobody seems to frequent. I wonder if we've crossed paths.
Some pics. Unfortunately most past prime.

Still loads of pins popping

and another species of Bolete growing nearby. Morphology is identical to B.edulis but the stipe and cap are more reddish in appearance. Am yet to pin it down.

and the two species growing side by side

Some subs. Yellow phenotype alongside the usual orange specimens.

a couple randoms

Thanks. Panasonic FZ1000. It's a poor choice for mushroom photography IMO.

The best camera is the one you have with you.
Some kind of native boletes? Those are definitely don't eat, right?

I don't know yet but until then they're off the menu. A native Porcini (Boletus austroedulis) was recently discovered in Northern Australia. Here's the link anyone interested. Fascinating to think the species we've introduced from Europe can be traced back to lineage in Australia.

I had a spare few hours today so the mrs and I went out for a look. We tried a few new spots, first two no good for subs, third and last one for the day was a winner. some good flushes and lots of pins for us another time or another person to find. I saw one that was really dark and I wondered what may have caused it? My theory is that spores were dumped on it from a larger one that is no longer there, or maybe it has been pooped on by a critter as my mrs theorizes lol.

This seems to be Boletus huronensis, false king boletes. You can see one staining blue there which is indicative of it. THey seem to have come with Porcini
Awesome shots!

Over 8 Days 16 hours reading this forum - 16 hours looking at the ground. (800kms of driving)
I find gold.
Here's a few pics and observations from my recent learning experience that may help some.
Habitat is the number only key.
Native bushland. Eucalyptus litter, sticks, dead trees, grass, ferns. Lots of water around, droplets still on grass blades in the middle of the day. Shade. Cover. South.

There is so many look likes. kinda. Until you know what you're looking for.
They are a true blemished gold, unpolished brass colour. Get low to the ground, move some fallen stuff around. Smell the mushrooms. Seriously. Use your nose.
Put in the KM's on foot. Use google earth and google maps. Use this forum, search back to 2008 as I did. There's been some golden nuggets tucked away in here over time.
Read.
My first find was 3x P subs. In the middle of a path, staring right at me when I was about to give up another day and go home.

Then another one, another one, another 10 and some more. Pins here and there, over there. Everywhere.

I'd found more than enough for a test and trip. Plus some microdosing I want to trial for a period of time.
Once you see them, you cannot unsee them.
Thanks again for all the people that have been on and contributed to this forum. Really appreciate it.

South facing hills i should have added.
You don't have to go that far if you know what you're looking for. Do some more research on this forum and you'll find answers.
No one is going to tell you a spot.
But yes yes and yes to all your questions.

This!
So true, we're organic pattern machines. It kind of amazes me how great my brain is at spotting them while I just cast my eyes around, even from good distances away. Very cool. Hunting them makes me feel in touch with the heritage of our humanity.
Welcome to the fam 😊✌️
Heading out now, if yall see a half naked hippy in a sunny pine forest holla

Is anyone here comfortable with saying that they fully understand the controlled substances act of SA? I've been reading it this morning and, while its not particularly complex, the self referential legal jargon does my head in somewhat. Besides the fact mushrooms are listed as plants, lol. What I mostly don't understand is the specific quantities, (psilocybin/psilocin) by weight or the actual mushrooms themselves by weight, and then, the intent to sell is listed as part of the offence for most of the offences related to controlled plants. Also, does quantity, without evidence to the contrary, determine intent to sell in the interpretation of the controlled substances act? I've never sold and never will but in the eyes of the law that doesn't matter right?
If anyone can help me understand the laws as they pertain to us that pick and/or grow I would REALLY appreciate it. Obviously its not the most exciting part of our endeavour but anyone of us doing this should be well aware of the laws. And should also probably be involved in pursuing positive drug law change in our state.

What have you got planned?

Seriously though, all you need to know is it depends on the police busting you, where you get busted, when and probably other factors. You might get really lucky and get told to chuck them on the ground... or you might not and they will weigh what you have wet and charge you with that and intent to sell.....
Walking through a public forest taking nothing but pictures is not illegal, just remember that.

That's the thing, I don't have anything planned, especially not selling. They are free from the forest, so they are free to all. I just want to be fully aware of the law etc.
In other news, I had the best foresting day I've ever had today, in 2-3 hours I came across very nearly 2kg of Subaeruginosa.
