Pf tek field capacity question 1

So I started my first with pf tek, the updated tek version and started with 2:1:1 verm:water:brf. However, the resulted mas was very dry and wouldnt give any water when squeezing hard. So I ended up adding about 0.5 fractions of water so it seemed to be at the field capacity described in the tek, a couple of drops too dripping though so I sprinkled a bit of more verm. Steamed jars filled with this and the dry verm layer as per the tek. So my question is can someone say from experience that I fucked up already or are these jars good for inoculation?

Did you mix the verm and water first and then add the BRF or did you throw the verm and BRF in the bowl together and then added water?

Prolly work. Better to be a little dry than a little wet. Pictures

the pf tek is not supposed to be at field capacity it's damp at best, too much moisture compacts the substrate, stick to the recipe. the verm is barely at field capacity before the flour is added. no it doesn't make a difference what order you do it unless you use hot water, it becomes sticky clumpy and starchy so use cold water

Yeah I always mix Verm and Flour then add water slowly stiring and getting the BRF to stick to the damp verm. You want a fluffy light consistency. If it sticks to your hand it's to wet. You should be able to grab a handful and let it fall back off into the bowl and your hand should be pretty dry.

When steam bathing, do I have the BRF verm mixture in the jars??
Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Well damn it. I would say my mix was at field cap and in the end it did get quite clumpy which I was a bit worried about. Should I just start over? By the way, why does the tek posted by Ziran then emphasise field capacity with video clips to show it if it isn't important for pf tek?

Right. Thanks for the clarification. Might as well try the jars I made already, but I will also make a new set with the correct recipe.

The texture of the correct PF material should feel like damp sand. Not clumpy. Not totally dry. Damp sand.
Without pics, its hard to say if you messed up the mixture on your current jars.

Yeah, so I discarded the jars after checking out the quality of the stuff. It was way too wet and dense, like dough or something. Now I got steamed jars with just the kind of moistness you talk about. On to inoculatin now. Wish me luck.

U made the right choice. If its dough-consistency, you need to redo the batch from scratch. Good Luck InnerWisdom
