so I had some old jars I was going to make a bed with but the weather's not going to co operate and a whack of manure so ....
let's do iffy spawn to untreated manure with larvae included and a few rocks in a tub that's not clean n covered in grain starch n dead flys and is far too big to actually be useful (105 qts)...genius right?

Wow thatβs reassuring, I just bought manure for a first shot at pans and it was like two bucks for 50 pounds or something. I was worried about messing up pasteurization but if it works this well it might replace coir for me. Canβt beat a couple cents of substrate per tub.
How much spawn did you use?
Lol he even said iffy spawn Feldman! Thats even better.

really makes me wanna give it a go. been a while since I spawned to manu, but thats all I used to use before my gnar gnar grain batch made me paranoid and I switched to coir. havent gone back because of simplicity and ease of prep/ not having to drive to a stable to collect and then dry and shred it but it sure did colonize well and make for some nice myc food and fruits

Was this store bought manure?
That old black kow thread came up and I didnβt realize some brands supposedly come pre pasteurized.

I have done this with pans. These weird orange things popped up for 12 hours. Then the pan grew fine.

I'm surprised at how well the substrate looks given all that info. So cool to see how resilient mycelium can be. Thanks for sharing the journey with us, cron.
