Bulk substrate: add perlite at top or bottom?

I got confused between SGFC and bulk substrate so I got both vermiculite and perlite. I want to go the bulk substrate route. Is there any use for the perlite in this case? What if I make a bottom layer of perlite in order to have some drainage and prevent water accumulating at the bottom? What if I have a top layer of perlite in order to increase humidity at the top? What if I mix it in the substrate in order to decrease particle uniformity and... increase air or something? Any pros or cons?

Nah skip perlite. Use a thin top layer at spawning. So leave about a quart or quart and a half of your substrate and apply a thin layer on top after you mix your spawn and bulk substrate

So what if I make a SGFC setup, but instead of cakes I have bulk substrate? I am probably just going to do it the standard way, but I wonder. Are there such combinations being done or is this a contradiction?

45% verm 45% coir 10% perlite is a decent casing material, other than that save it for future uses

Look at pasty’s ez dial. That is the closest thing to a shotgun chamber. Shotgun chambers require far too much maintenance and dry out far too fast. You want something that won’t require much maintenance. look up monotub.
