no fruits...
    #2653301 - 05/08/04 12:00 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Well it has been a week and i have 3 jars sitting in their chamber and 2 casings covered with tin foil. So their have not been any pins on the cakes and no mycelium growth on the casings. Is this a bad sign or have i just not waited long enough?

(The casing layer is probably about 1 1/2" thick and i never cold shocked the cakes.)

Ive had casings and cakes that took 10 days to pin, depends on alot of factors,I would give it more time.Soome strains take longer to pin than others.

Butternut squash are softer than acorn or other types of squash, which makes them easier to cut and prepare.

I was going to let my cakes start pinning while still in the jars, and then birth them into the terrarium for the mushrooms to grow to maturity. Would it be better to just birth them now instead of letting them start while still in the jars?

Yes I would dunk them first then place them in your chamber. That way when they do pin, they will have all that xtra moisture to help increase yeild. It makes a BIG diffeance.

Alright ya it might take your casings 10 days to pin but mine has been 7 days and i havent even gotten any visible mycelium growth. How long should i give the cakes till i make the decision that they are hopeless.

1 1/2" casing layer is way to thick it will take a long time to get to the surface. How thick is your subrate 1/4" of casing to every inch substrate

It's only been one week. Have you done any reading at all?
