That and the fact that Im very comfortable stocked up on all necessities (for weeks) while everybody is going apeshit here now
I know Asante is too sweet to come in here and say "I told you so"
But damn, did he tell you so, over and over again

This is one of those cases where you don't want to be right. I've been hoping it would hoax and that my harvest would be the ridicule of the incredulous and unkind.
I'm very glad you're stocked up Tripsurfer, and very glad that there are more who either are stocked up now or, ahead of the curve, are stocking up on key essentials.
This thread by HamHead, stubbornly stickied within a week, is a CORONAVIRUS CRASH COURSE that's been viewed almost 25,000 times now. Like the epidemic, views-per-day and participation are now in sharp increase. Its no longer January, with rapid China growth, its no longer February, with China containment, its March, with rapid worldwide growth. And MARCH we must - MARCH to do the right things for our families and ourselves, with both hands and both feet, the left and the right must work together on this.
Don't sit petrified by the media and this thread going but get off that seat and start doing.
Stock up, educate the self and your close ones, take real world measures.
Its not a time for me to gloat on having been right, its a time for prayer and community rallying.
I said this before and it was harshly dismissed but I'll say it again:
America is facing a very rapid spread due to extensive inter-state air and road travel, and the actual incindence is highly underreported. Do you think that the US of A that the world looks towards, has barely twice the patient count than Holland with 17 million inhabitants. Sorry, no. You have a TON if inbound flights from all directions and have a TON of inter-state travel. Its everywhere, in every state.
Stock up, educate the self and your close ones, take real world measures.
This thread has very educational materials from the start, like The 200+ page Mormon Guide on home survival, preping, canning etc etc.
America is very fond of war. War on drugs, war on illiteracy, war on this, war on that.
SOLDIER THERE'S A WAR ON
The Enemy is literallly ANOTHER SPECIES that INVADED THE US MAINLAND and has to be EXTERMINATED TO THE LAST ONE.
Its a war that is being fought in YOUR state YOUR city, in YOUR street, maybe even YOUR HOUSE and IN YOUR BODY.
Human casualty rate will be somewhere between 0.7-7% depending on availability of medical care.
We must all be EFFICIENT and WORK TOGETHER. A UNIFIED EFFORT.
Most people will be merely somewhat ill, so they must self quarantine. If the hospitals flood, even the severe cases will have to home quarantine, lie on their stomachs and hope for the best.
Pray em if you get em.
This will get worse before it will get better but then!! It gets better.
When the shroud of disease will lift, we will have toi deal with a TRASHED ECONOMY and we will have to reinvent hoiw we do tings because the old model was unsustainable.
If you can be with them or have a place that can stay, I implore you that if you deem it wise, to pull your kids out of school as being sick. Think of home schooling. Children and teens catch and transmit the disease as readily as grownups, they just get much less sick of it, if at all, but will be still deadly for those around them. Think of how it goes with flu and colds, schools are a reservoir to infect the nation - putting youths from all over town together in close quarters for hours on end. Let them have their "holiday" because whats coming will be stressful for them too. Educate them and they can help you supply and hold the fort.

I am all stocked up and should be able to live in isolation for 2 months or more, if normal services (water, electricity) keeps going. Wife and I are also going to try and keep children out of the schools as far as possible.
Went to the pharmacy and got some basic meds and the pharmacist recommended taking "Electro Colloidal Silver Liquid" as it has some benefits that might fight off viruses. I have not used it before but read up on it and might be good to keep at hand.
TP is not a problem here is RSA yet but I stocked up on that as well.
This virus is going to cause absolute havoc here if it takes hold on the high number of HIV and TB infected population and I foresee millions dying in the next few months if nothing is done soon to stop the spread.
I also stocked up on ammo as this is the unfortunate reality of this country, that from the panic and fear violence and destruction will emerge and further unnecessary lives will be lost.
Stay safe everyone!

Tuesday 382 Wednesday: 503 (+121) Thursday: 614 (+111) Friday: 804 (+190)
You had the finger on the pulse Koraks, it went right on exponential. Cases have more than doubled in half a week.

My boss and all my companys's leadership is really trying to downplay this all and just making jokes about all the dimwits trying to get toilet paper. I work in IT and they are just talking about how it's been good for us having the extra calls to set up remote access for users lately but that's going to be short lived.

I saw the UK wants to shoot for mass infections for herd immunity.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/13/coronavirus-science-chief-defends-uk-measures-criticism-herd-immunity
Is that even scientifically sound? This isn't chicken pox, does an infection mean you now have immunity? That sounds like a terrible plan. Aren't there people in Wuhan who got it twice?
This shit is going to cost me thousands, my seasonal side gig of charging electric scooters is almost certainly going to be banned legally by the government for health reasons, and no one is going want to touch a shared scooter anyway, and i don't want virus covered scooters in my apartment. And my investments have all tanked, including precious metals, which was the low risk investment. Everyone is staying home and I'm working extra shifts and can't work from home.

I think the biggest hinderance in the US is the lack of reliable testing.
Around my area, I feel as though people have begun taking this more seriously. Schools are canceled, gatherings over 250 people are banned, it seems as though as many people that can work from home, are. If we continue to practice effective social distancing, transmission should drop tremendously. It'll be a week or two as symptoms peak, and then transmission drops.
Obviously, a best case scenario, but I'll be an optimist because I feel like people are on the right track.

Even though the WHO is 2 weeks behind the alarm buzz, that may helped stores to stockup for the supply & demand chain to ramp-up - prepare.
while is already mid march & according to this data, i guess its not too late to get informed and take actions. Not just for ourselves but to those around us, who are less informed and prepared. A juice & A pack of biscuit given to neighbhor does wonders.

Agreed 100%.
Self-isolation is the best plan of action since the US is lagging in testing protocols. It should help with reducing transmissions. Only time will tell.

Well, if people actually self-isolate (properly) it'll reduce transmission for sure. The virus can't live long without a host. However, yesterday, once the governor closed everything there was a rush to the grocery stores. I was in line with crowd thinking to myself "yeah, this is exactly what shouldn't be happening." Only time will tell though.

No, America's biggest problem is dunning kruger, I know a nurse, armchair quarterbacking idiots. And the mass unwarranted panic it's created. Although the panic and Hysteria to go to get TP and groceries probably does well to help it spread faster.

For those among you who valued my Spirit Guide's advices over the years, a month and 15 days ago he said in this very thread:
Quote:
Asante said on 27/01/20 (1 month, 15 days ago): Take this with however many grains of salt you wish:
Quote:
Spirit Guide says:
Something had to happen. The havoc mankind wreaks outward had to return back inward. A nuclear holocaust would have greatly increased the burden upon the ecosystem. It would have to be something that directly affects mankind, directly reduces its destructive process and with it, ease the burden on the environment. That something, is Coronavirus 2019-nCoV, a century after the Spanish Flu.
Forget everything you had planned. This will take priority fast over anything you had planned. Humanity is entering a crisis period. Expect this northern hemisphere winter to be the winter of the Great Pandemic.
China has a large diaspora. Chinese wil scramble towards their relatives abroad and will be infectious during the asymptomatic period. For the death toll of the pandemic, there could be no worse point of origin than China.
Mouth masks. Gloves. Desinfectant. Essential foods to be able to camp out at home when infection is sweeping the streets. Expect it to reach your town and prepare accordingly. Water, electricity, society will not break down but it will be advantageous to make preparations to withdraw from it, to have protective means for mingling and have cough lozenges and OTC medications for the airways, against allergy and aspirins capable of suppressing high fevers in case disease strikes the home.
Expect this disease to become a very big deal, fast. Expect mutations to occur in the months until vaccines become available.
Something big had to happen to drive humanity back into each other's arms.
2019-nCoV is part of this process, the perfect storm to turn the tide on humanity's destructive path. Humbled, the survivors will mend their ways.
As much as I like to get you on your hind legs, I'm afraid this is not a drill. This is the literal crisis I had you prepare for through all my metaphorical scenarios.
Deal with it.

My spirit guide asked me to chance a final supermarket run for a while, and so I did.
All the baskets were in use. so were most of the trolleys. More than a few people were visibly spooked. A lady was coughing her lungs out in the back of the store.
Empty spots on storeshelves. a few boxes of cough lozenges standing ready for stocking the shelves
Trying to keep the 2 meters distance where I went.
Cash register lady to the woman in front of me "How many people do you think I'm exposed to in a day, I'm scared to death!"
conscious gentle nose breathing to extra filter the air.
Almost nordic-walked out of the store!
Lady in the parking lot to another: "Yeah I dont know, he started coughing last week, and now today he has a fever..."
OUT OF THERE.
On my bike back my Spirit Guide said: "I wanted you to bear witness. Things are about to change."
Pool, and all sports accomodations, are closed "till March 31". Yeah, that'll be the day, its all going to be over because the prime minster put the date on the 31st. Like fuck, by then we'll have so much carnage that the even more draconian measures will b3e more readily accepted. I see them doing it, slowly bloiling the frog by gradually taking measures. Fucking take those measures NOW and smoothen the curve.
We're not going to stop this thing.
Buy time, ease the curve.
Just got a prompt from my provincial broadcasting network: Hospitals in my province issued a Code Red and one hospital already withdrew all leaves to its employees like it was some military base on alert.

my grocery store wasnt as bad, there were a ton of people, I went for the canned vegetables, green beans were sold out, so I got the last few cans of yellow beans, then had to take the rest in mixed peas & carrots, I went to grab another rice, the 8kg bags were sold out, so I had to get 4 2kg bags, cost me an extra $5 doing it that way, went to grab an extra 5 beans, there was maybe only 20 left (tons of split peas though) and it took me like 30 minutes to check out, long lines, everyone had like 2 cases of waters too

Unless they have a trail of Sherpas following them with canned goods, cases of water is just a waste of shopping expedition.
Order a foodgrade 55 gallon drum online for home delivery, and a LifeStraw, and when the going gets rough fill it up with tap water = problem solved.
Your 8kg rice > their 8 ltr. water.
