New type of scalpel with heat sinks? (Rough sketch pic) * 1
    #26530171 - 03/12/20 01:34 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

I have been searching for quite some time to find a scalpel with a type of heat sink without any after market modifications.  As I'm tired of flaming my blade too long and having a to hot to handle tool. So I reached out and talked to a company who seem interested in realizing my idea. I'm curious as to if anyone else would be interested in this type of scalpel. Right now it's just a rough draft and no where a realized thing. But I figured I couldn't be the only one who would like a comfortable scalpel that has built in heat sinks.  Or am I?  Interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.  And please inform me if this isn't the right place for this. If not I will promptly try to put it where it should be.  Thanks!

No matter if it is successful, keep thinking innovation and promotion... you will get far.  Great blueprint!

There's a loop that does this.

Heating a loop takes a lot less energy than a blade. There are some battery powered soldering irons too, but again its much easier to just heat the tip of an iron. A self heating scalpel would likely need to have a wall plug in and that would be too cumbersome.

Wouldn't you be holding on to the heat sink in that design? If its a big enough proble and you don't feel like using two scalpels like bod suggest, you could try puting an insulator on the handle. Heat shrink tubing would probably work well.

My scalpel doesn't get that hot from flaming the blade, are you using an excato knife?

I would always heat as much of the scalpel as possible until The handle became too hot...maybe he does the same

The #7 handle is great ime. I also have never had it get hot all the way down, with my old flat handle it would get a little warm if I really went at it but that’s it.

I get the entire blade red and then sometimes do all the way to the part where it slides onto the handle.

Are you guys torching the whole handle also?

You could just get a silicon pencil holder to put where your fingers go.

Yeah I do that at the moment and actually have another arriving tomorrow haha. But there are flaws in each type (that I didn't like personally) that brought me to the idea of this design. Well that, and searching far and wide to find a blade handle that had those properties already lol. These are the tools I have presently. Which do thier job. But I figured if I could consolidate down to fewer tools the better.

Hmmmm that would be interesting. Especially if you could keep the weight down and robust enough to survive drops and spills and whatnot.

Yes you would be holding the heat sink in this design. But with it being such a long heat sink only the first be would be to hot in theory. Or could just modify the design and have a smaller heat sink too. Right now this design was just something I drew up in 5min last night lol. Not very well thought through. Just slapped some elements of an Xacto, #7 scalpel, and a Tobh drip atomizer cap from a vape I used to have and Drew it out to a size that looks like it's fit comfortably in my hand lol. Yes a silicone slip would work as well as tape, and other modifications. But my thoughts were, if you had to option to buy a blade handle that had all the issues addressed already I'd choose that.  But that's all my personal opinion and the reason why I put the post up to see what everyone else thinks as well 😊
