Hi there,
I prepared some jars for pftek, and what i did this time was to make only one hole in the center of the lid, instead of 4 holes.
My thinking was: with 4 holes when I start to see mycelium I don't know when it reaches the center of the cake, so I thought to make one hole in the center and When I see micelium reaching the walls of the jar I'd know the cake is fully colonized.
I inoculated the jars Thursday 27 february, and until last night haven't seen any mycelium yet, any ideas on how long it'll take? Because with 4 holes it takes only 3-5 days to start seeing mycelium (temperature is between 78.5 - 82.7 5F )
Thanks!

The amount of holes in your pf cake is not going to be any sort of limiting factor compared to genetics or medium prep.

Yeah I have never used more than one hole, just angle the syringe to hit all four corners and you are golden

That's how I do it, one hole injected in the middle. Growth is visable within 3-7 days. Usually I see growth at the top and bottom of the jar before it spreads to all sides of the jar.
As you said, you'll know the center is fully colonised by the time the outside of the cake turns white

Probably take weeks. The issue with this idea is if you have mold growing, u wont know until the end of the colonization process.
And as the saying goes, Knowing is Half the Battle.

Sometimes even at 100% Contams can hide that’s why it’s best to wait a week or two for consolidation after your cakes are done

I'll wait then .... next time I'll make 5 holes and inoculate the spores in the center and in the other 4 holes near the walls of the jar.
