Ive cased a Gallindii tub with just cactus mix straight out of the bag , that tub lasted months with out contamming.

Is pasturizing a casing layer essential? I havnt tried it with Cubes But after a bunch of reading i wana experiment with casings alot, especially for ape.

Pasteurizing is essential for certain mixes, especially those involving peat moss. There are a lot of ways to case, some work better than others. How did the gallindii do with the cactus mix?

I never pasteurize jiffy anymore.

I throw a few handfuls into a shoebox then throw in a few handfuls of verm and soak it with the mister while shaking it up til it’s ready to use.

I also usually get two flushes before mold pops up, but almost always huge flushes and that’s usually all I’m gonna do anyway.

The tub produced like 3.5 LB of stones. Beautiful big sclerotia. I was very impressed. Biggest stone weighed like 90-100g or something like that.

Subscribed. Would amending jiffy mix with lime to pH 8 be better than leaving it as is?

Do you add water to the casing before pasteurizing?

I get mine at least near field capacity.. I feel like it heats more evenly Ryan if it was dry.  Too wet and it’ll clump. I Usually end up spraying it down a bit after I apply it.

Ok cool.

Also didn’t case 1st flush, should I case the 2nd flush?

I don’t experience casing after first flush.. maybe someone else can chime in.. I’d probably skip it since if you got a blobby 1st, you’ll get normalish fruits in later flushes.. just from what I’ve read

Fuck yes!!!

Man, i had a buddy who i literally walked thru making and pasteurizing casing and he didnt listen at all.  Checked his tubs a few weeks later and saw that he hadnt ever hydrated the casing:facepalm3:

The method that stamets outlines in either mush cult or growing gourm+meds is great and works like a charm.  Hake out half of your dry ingredients,  add water to the other half until it is wet mud consistency and then add back the other half and mix.  Its been perfect everytime for me so far

Some of the full fat flushes in the op came from an uncased blob tub that had maybe 5 giant fruits 2nd flush... i cloned the biggest one and got wall to wall fruits after that

hell yeah, seems pretty straight forward. thanks for that tip!

would you recommend casing the second flush? first flush didn't get cased and produced a full flush of blobs. ended up with 400g dry off two tubs..

Blobbing is usually a first flush thing and then goes away ime. These guys have grown way more PE though so idk.

Couldn’t hurt I guess right.

I imagine that the myc has already begun to matt and wont grow into the casing.  It may make any stumps that are left get pseudomonas.  Do u have multiple tubs to test on?  I havent tried this but test if u can and report back.  Maybe case half of it

yeah, i mean i guess that's the real question. could there be a downside to casing a 2nd flush if 1st wasn't cased?

And can blobbing be a common issue on subsequent flushes? If not, seems like i shouldn't case at this point? Not sure here...
