Need Help To Choose Right Fan for laminar flow hood
    #26528318 - 03/10/20 11:00 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hi, I've been trying to work with what my country has to offer when the subject is fans and filters...

The fan I think would be the best choice is a VARIVELOX VENTILADOR SIROCO 2P.

The only values that are shown in the data sheet are:

1/3cv 3500rpm speed: 12 m3/min pressure: 20mmH2O (I've calculated a CFM of 429 and ~200Pa pressure)

I don't know if it is a blower or a fan, but ventilador means fan...

Heres the fan datasheet:

The filter I want to use is an H14 with an size of 295mmX595mmX75mm(11.6'x 23.4'x3') and loss 125Pa - 400 Pa.

The Pre Filter and its size is 295mmX595mmX45mm (11.6' x 23.4' x 1.77') and loss 80Pa - 300Pa:

I asked the seller to dimension with a fan that had speed: min 145m³/h - max 187m³h, but I'm kinda worried because here in the forum I saw only way bigger fans to a 12x24 laminar flow hood.

Yeah, its weird, when they sent me the offer, they sent me with those sizes...

I think that they round it up in the chart so its the 305mm x 610mm.

Now I saw that in the prefilter chart they call the 295mm x 595mm as 12'x24', so I'm pretty sure that they round it up.

I built a 600 x 600 and if you want to work with grow bags I advise you to go at least that size.

Look in my signature for the build I did

I was reading your post.

I'm not getting it, thats why I'm asking for help... would this fan would work on a 610mm x 610mm ?

Because the expensive part is the fan, the filter seems to be an ok price.

I had a choice of fans which I worked out on the companies chart

So if you see you have lots of different rvk fans you can choose from

Do they have options or chart?

My filter was $250 and my fan was $100

That datasheet has all their commercial options... which are a 360 m3/h and a 720 m3/h the only thing that changes in the 12 m3/min or 720m3/h is the energy input. They make custom build ones too, but probably is really expensive.

I messaged them and talked with one of their engineers, and when I asked if it would deliver 200 CFM in a 0.8 to 1.2 static pressure he was puzzled and only answered "if you measure the fan's output... you'll measure 12 m3/min and 20 mm per water column or 20mmH20".

I thought that I was missing on something and that I could easily answer myself with these data that he gave me.

So I made some conversions, like mmH20 to Pa, which gave a value really close to 200, converted m3/h to CFM and found a value of 429, and converted mmH20 to inch of water column which gave a value of 0.78.

But I really don't know what am I doing.

You are doing the right thing to find out.  Im a bit confused by this too sorry.  Maybe ask people on the cultivation thread to look at this.

I think I got it!

I found out that a laminar flow hood can work with a speed range of 0.25 m/s to 0.45 m/s (reason: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laminar-0-25-0-45m-Velocity-Industry-Horrizontal/dp/B07QVC47P6) that's the reason why the smaller fan would work on an 12'x 24'!
Because if you want to have a 0.45 m/s flow you'll need a fan that will blow  300 m3/h, but what if you only want 0.25 m/s ? probably the 180 m3/h would suffice.

In the filter's datasheet there is how much the fan needs to blow in m3/h to have a 0.45m/s flow.

So if I want to have a 0.45m/s flow on a 610x610 filter, I will need 600 m3/h and I want to use a pre filter so I'll put +20% thats 720m3/h which is exactly how much the varivelox blows.

Well done with that, it made my brain hurt.  To be honest as long as you get something blowing out you should be good to go anyway.  Laminar flow is best but anyflow can work as long as its constant
