THE COVID-19 VACCINE SMOKING CHALLENGE 5

Listen up guys:
As we all know, there is a disease spreading all over the world that often causes very serious lung ailments, such as antibiotic resistant pneumonia and respiratory failure.
It is completely reasonable to assume that if you catch this disease, and you smoke, that you are much worse off than when you don't smoke.
I mean, smoking with any kind of pneumonia? I don't think so.
THE CHALLENGE:
How about quitting smoking NOW, at the very least staying quit until the COVID-19 vaccine is out?
Just as an extra motivation to QUIT SMOKING.
We know you wanna quit and anre looking for reasons to strengthen your willpower.
Let COVID-19 be the reason for the s4eason.
If you smoke you'll catch it easier, it is more severe, it is more lethal and it lingers longer AND opens you up more to secondary infections with bacteria, just like with the flu or a cold but much much worse since pneumonia is one of the main historic killers of humanity and right now there is no medicine.
Quote:
Peter Dixon [pneumonia patient] said:
I have pneumonia right now, unfortunately.
It started with simple coughing then progressed to deep, uncontrollable hacking. Sleep has been basically out of the question these last 3 days because I’d cough every 10 minutes or so and wake myself up.
Two days ago in the evening in the early part of this I tried resisting the impulse to cough because it hurt. I could feel my rib cage rearrange because the coughs were so strong. Because I had been allowing the fluid to build up finally when I couldn’t resist I found I couldn’t get any breath at all! My airway was completely blocked with fluid. Things started to get dim and I felt myself begin to pass out. Luckily I was able to move and that seemed to open things up. Just imagine though trying to draw a deep breath and being surprised and scared for your life at not getting any air at all.
I called Ontario’s Telehealth service and left a message. They were super busy because of coronavirus scare. About 6 hours later they got back to me and after a consultation advised me to go to the ER.
After waiting an uncomfortable 5 hours a nurse practitioner put me on Tylenol for my fever and an IV. My pulse was a sitting 130, a sign that I was hypovolemic. My heart was trying to service my body with insufficient fluid. Once it had all gone in my pulse went down to a more manageable 100. I had never really understood the requirement of keeping hydrated when sick. I do now. I was given a 7 day prescription Amoxicillin (penicillin) and told to take more Tylenol should my fever come back, and to return to the ER if I didn’t feel better in a couple of days.
As it is the hacking coughs are definitely less frequent but I still can’t get any sleep.
I’m a non-smoker and not old, but I can definitely see how pneumonia kills people. With what I know now I would have gone to the ER as soon as the hacking became uncontrollable.
Edit several days later: My airways were being swollen shut preventing all attempts to sleep. A visit to an urgent care clinic yielded two puffers to open up my airways. I’m not sleeping normally, the hacking cough is still ever present, but in the last 24 hrs I’ve gotten in 6 hrs sleep divided into 3 portions. Definitely not enjoying this.
This wasnt COVID, just regular pneumonia. This pneumonia stopped with antoibiotics (amoxicillin) but covid's pneumonia is unaffected by it.
What do you say: How about quitting smoking AT LEAST until the vaccine is out or COVID is otherwise subdued?
A Shroomerite who has quit smoking has a better health outlook than one who still smokes, in regular life but cewrtainly when they catch Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) Coronavirus 2, or "SARS-2" or "COVID19" which this disease going round is.
As an EXTRA motivation.
There is something going round that could make smoking kill you THIS YEAR.
EXTRA motivation!
Wanna vape? vape! Wanna chew or cold turkey or a patch on your butt, all fair game -- but quit inhaling smoke and stay at leasrt quit till they got the vaccine for this.
That is as rational as Mr Spock of star trek, who died of COPD 30 years after quitting smoking.
QUIT SMOKING
Escape the Reynolds plantation and dont let the Marlboro man catch you! Lung cancer caught the Marlboro man in the end, remember?
EXTRA MOTIVATION!!
There is something going round that could make smoking kill you THIS YEAR.
Chances are that when the vaccine comes, you'll consider smoking a mistake of the past that you won't fall for again.
THE COVID-19 VACCINE SMOKING CHALLENGE
Anyone up for it?

An untested vaccine is going to save us for sure lol. I'm sure all those stressed out lab coats have your best interest in mind when trying to meet quotas in unrealistic time frames while maintaining the bottom line for the boss. Quality sciencing going on right now.
Great decisions being made...

My tobacco stocks are getting murdered like old italians out there.
Usually tobacco sales are helped by low gas prices, but if like 10% of the world ends up with reduced lung function it would be bad for cigarette sales.

For real. I don't smoke cigarettes, but I've been home so I've been smoking weed waaaay too much out of boredom. I can already feel it effecting my lungs more so than usual. I've got weed in the oven decarbing as we speak, and a big jar of coconut oil on stand by. Can't control the pandemic, but this is a choice that's within my grasp, and smoking anything(though, particularly cigarettes) definitely worsens COVID outcomes.

Its hard when I'm at home with nothing to do.
I never smoke before or during work because I like to get a better headrush after work and I dont want to smell like a sketch bag. so when I'm working I wont smoke until like 9pm sometimes.
But I'm sitting at home and I'm fighting the urge to smoke right now and its just after 3pm.
Its also rainy and cold so I dont want to go outside.
This is going to be tough. I have some expired dip and snus laying around that I can use when and if I get sick. But in the meantime I just want to smoke.

Just a reminder that it also might be not be a bad time to give up alcohol for a bit as well
Quote:
Partiers who order booze for home delivery or gather in groups, especially longtime drinkers, should be wary and consider experts’ precautions. “Clinicians have long observed an association between excessive alcohol consumption and adverse immune-related effects such as susceptibility to pneumonia,” noted a 2015 article, Alcohol and The Immune System, published in Alcohol Research: Current Reviews. “Alcohol disrupts immune pathways in complex and seemingly paradoxical ways.”
Various studies indicate that alcohol use can deliver a body blow: It messes with humans' gastrointestinal system, altering the function of healthy gut microbes linked to immunity. Alcohol can also impair key immune cells in the lungs and damage epithelial cells that line the lungs' surface (where COVID-19 can also attack). ”Often, the alcohol-provoked lung damage goes undetected until a second insult, such as a respiratory infection, leads to more severe lung diseases,” the article noted. “Alcohol consumption does not have to be chronic to have negative health consequences. In fact, research shows that acute binge drinking also affects the immune system.”

That's probably to help keep the peace but some places have closed stores.
I'm an idiot and I need to quit but panic attacks are awful and I probably can't just walk in and refill my klonipin script right now.
In fact I tried that the last time I tried to kick it and they didn't give it to me then.
I know it's a mental hang up but that doesn't make it magically disappear.
I'd like to use the excuse of quarantine to not go out and buy more smokes when this pack is out but I can't make any promises of wether my brain will try to kill me.

34.6% of adults with any mental illness reported current use* of tobacco in 2016 compared to 23.3% of adults with no mental illness.5
Individuals who have mood disorders, psychoses, anxiety disorders, developmental disorders, and substance use disorders are more likely to be addicted to nicotine than those without these disorders. Nicotine dependence has proven to be particularly challenging for individuals suffering from psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia.6 Smoking prevalence was highest among those with schizophrenia, at nearly 90%.6

There are people who are so addicted to alcohol that withdrawal could bring about DT's and seizures and death.
