LI frustration and Spawn bag issues

So I have now done 5 bags with blender LI and I have seen no growth at all. The tek seems pretty self explanatory with blending agar into sterile water than putting into spawn bag but I’m five days out on some and see no growth. I’ve seen post where a whole bag was colonized in that time! Is there anything I can do to improve or could have done that would cause this? Along with this I had 3 bags that were G2G they were growing great about 35% and I shook them because it was uniformed growth, now they’re not recovering should I not shook them? One last note due to this troubles I decided to try grain slurries verse LI, any comments are good procedure I have one tek explaining it seems simply it says you can do like 50 jars so that be like 10 bags is this correct?

Found answer for LI I must have blended it too long damaging the mycelium, will these bags still colonize?

If youre going to blend up myc might as well go ahead and take one more step and make Liquid culture. I dont see much of a point in blending myc if you arent doing LC. Also blending myc slows its growth for a bit because boy do you gotta take some recovery time to get yourself back together after being shred to little itty bitty peices. but if you insist on dumping blended myc and water into a bag I suggest doing 3 seconds on, 3 seconds off. and do that a total of 3 times. It just helps to give the mycelium a small break in between, trust me. Mycelium is living so disrupting it in any capacity will turn its effort into healing instead of growing. Its usually not an issue but sometimes it needs a little more recovery time if its not as strong just yet. Again just doing Liquid culture instead will drastically improve the amount of myc you have but also its strength as it then allows for some R&R. You could just have less than ideal genes too.

Whoa that is extremely informative to me. I also modified a blender for LI, but have yet to use it... thanks for the heads up!

I figure verse then blending the mycelium right from the agar If I switch to the Grain slurries it seems like I’ll be able to inculcate more bags and have a stable medium for the mycelium to grow stronger on. I’m hesitant on LC because I’m look to short my time from spawning to harvesting so trying streamline it.

If your interested in LI, look into grain slurries I was set LI was the answer for long colonization times but grain slurries does a full grain bag in 3 days, so it is claim, I got two jars I have 100% right now going give it a swing. Also with the same amount of agar you can do almost 10x the spawn from what I read seems like the way to go if you want quick harvest and growing bulk.

try adding water to the agar, liquefying it, and sucking it up into the syringe. If you have SHIPs on your jars you can noc them up without opening them or even using an SAB.

In the long run I dont think it will save time or culture. LC is so insanely effective especially when its just one step farther than what youve already done. Sure you can blend myc up and throw it in a bag bag but if you throw that into some Malt Barley powder and water and let it sit and stir regularly for a few days that baby can Inoculate so many more bags and be healthier, stronger mycelium. Healthy, strong mycelium is what colonizes fast not just dumping a ton of butchered myc into a bag. It can work, absolutely, but you can make it work better.

Lc grows pretty quickly, but where it really saves time is if you have a bunch already grown. Right now I’ve got 5 varieties of lc. Anytime I want to grow one of those kinds I just have to pour some into a jar. No germination no agar nothing.
I don’t think it’s possible to blend the myc up too much. It looks like something is happening in a couple spots in that bag, might be bacterial.
Another good method I’ve been using lately is super soft agar plates. The myc colonized the whole puck down to the bottom so it has way more than a normal dish. Then once you drop it into a jar you shake really hard and it liquifies and coats all the grains.

I’m just using a oyster blender like all the teks on here are showing, what I’m worried about with LC is I’ve just read so many place where people trash it stating, it hides contamination really easy and your add additional steps into the cultivation process. If should do some research I’m looking at doing 18 tubs and need a way to knock up many bags at once, maybe it’s my solution.

I haven’t been using lc very long, but I’ve had a few go bad and it was obvious, they got cloudy.
Even if it looks good just swipe some on a plate and if it’s clean move forward.
Somebody found salad dressing lids that fit jars and have spouts to pour, it’s pretty cool.
Or the guys with the hose attached to the bottom of the lc jar and like a spray pump handle knocking up bags with an lc super soaker.

Grain slurries are my fav so far. I only pulse the blender a couple times for a second. I used one pint of colonized grain and 150ml water. These half gallons colonized in 4 days. I shook the left two bc there was a couple uncolonized spots, the right one never shaken.

Here's another one.
I've also used leftover slurry to start lc's which worked great but I've only don't that once. I've only been doing then since New year's.

Wait idk how I’ve read this so many times and it never registered.
You’re taking colonized grain spawn and blending it?
For some reason anytime I read slurry I automatically think brf cake.
Now I might have to make a blender lid.

Did this same exact technique last night. Already have some mycellium here and there on a few rye berries, less than 24 hours later.

Sweet. Just wait a day or two. I used like maybe a quarter plate and probably 90% of my wbs quart has myc on it.

No, you take a huge step out of the cultivation process- you take out the entire step using an SAB or even a flow hood.

Did you use pour or no-pour agar?

I guess what I'm asking is if you had the agar under a SHIP or not; meaning you could use syringes all the way to the end of inoculation, leaving almost zero chance for contamination as it never comes into contact with outside air.

I found LC tek I might try out I got like 60 clean plates of agar so might as well develop some of these skill sets. If you don’t mind me asking, with LC what is the recommended dilution for a whole 60mm agar puck, also I’ll be knocking up 5 qt oat bags( I seen a tbls if LC recommended per qt?? Is this correct?)

I was looking at the elementary LC tek, you still need SAB to inculcate the LC correct?

I definitely have 2 completed jars so I’m going try these grain slurries out, how much water do you need for qt jar of grain, would you estimate 10 5 qt spawn bags per qt of slurry?

no, you can make the agar (colonized) very soft, soft enough to shove a syringe through a SHIP and suck it all up without opening any containers... obviously no pour containers.

Well an lc is different, for that you’d mix the nutes and water then pc it, then knock it up with a little wedge in the SAB.
I guess if you had clean li In a syringe you could make lc without the SAB, but idk how you’d get clean li without one in the first place.

I see what you're saying. My operative point is that when on a two dimensional agar slab, you can see the contaminates... so really you get the best of the agar world and then the best of the LC (or LI) world when you contract it with a syringe, knowing it is clean.

Ya. Colonized grain then blend it. I did cakes too but you don't get the benefit of a final shake and grains colonize for me faster than cakes. That's how I've been doing it and I like it, don't know if anyone else is doing it that way but it's way faster than g2g.
