Hey all,
Complete noob here, first shroom shinanigans...
this is day 7, cube spores on PDA agar. (I have 10 dishes all together but they all look pretty similar)

plan is to inoculate oat grain in jars, is it worth trying to isolate any of these tufts to new dishes before they grow together, or just let it all colonize the plate and cut chunks for the jars? or isolate some bits when it's grown a bit more, or something else
This one is kinda wierd, it was a bunch of spores stuck together in the syringe that dint break up with shaking, contam? or can a spore clump grow out like this?
Day 5

Day 7

same blob diff background

Cheers, San

I'll usually wait until there's about a dime sized growth and start transfers from there.
Don't worry about isolates, just transfer until you get some clean cultures and start dropping to grains. Isolates takes many transfers to get a true isolate.

Most would say transfer a few times even if you don't see anything. You could do both. Take a transfer and use the rest to inoculate if you think it's clean

Why limit yourself?

Excellent, thanks. I could do the next batch from 2nd or 3rd transfers, sounds like a good plan, I'll do that

OK so I let them grow out a bit more, can now see signs of rhyzomorphic growth (is that even the right word )
Am I best trying to take transfers from those rhyzomorphic areas?

Not sure about these BHT spores, the spores seem to have taken well in the mycobox/growkit...

...but don't seem to like agar, or is it contam? is it even worth trying to transfer anything from this plate?

San
