Hey guys, it's my first time growing and unfortunately, due to circumstances I had to buy pre sterilized grain bags. I recived 2 today and on the bottom of both bags there are swollen and some cracked grains that look discolored. I did some searching and saw some posts with similar looking grains with people saying they are just too wet but I'm not sure. What do you think?

That looks like wet-spot contamination, unfortunately. It happens when the grain isn't properly sterilized. It'll have a ripe, dirty socks kinda smell. Here's a pic of wet spot contamination:

Yeah, that sucks man. Especially buying them pre-sterilized. You should see if you can get your money back or at least another batch of grain. Send them those pics too.
Your best bet is to buy some jars, buy some grain, get your hands on a PC, and do it yourself. Trust me, man. Grains are simple AF once you do them a couple of times.
Don't get too discouraged bro; we all get contams. It comes with the territory. Keep at it and you'll have cubies in no time.

Just got a reply from them, I sent some pics and this is what they had to say,
"its not uncommon for some grains on the bottom to get some extra excess water and normal" "if your worried sit the bag somewhere dark and cool for a week and if nothing grows they are fine"
They also say they've been making them for 10+ years, they work in a class 100 lab and everything is 100% sterile when they leave the factory.
Sounds a bit sketchy to me. Any thoughts?
Also definitely not stopping till I get this right And I'll be getting a PC as soon as I can.

All I know is anytime my grains looked like that, they were always contaminated.
IMO, it's Bacillus subtilis.

And it's not so much about their lab being 'sterile', they didn't properly sterilize the grain, i.e. proper pressure cooking/autoclaving. The fact that they won't own up to their mistake is rather sketchy. Where did you get the bags from?
However, I wouldn't toss them just yet. I agree that you should let them sit for a couple days or so and see if it spreads. It's definitely wetspot but sometimes you can get away with it (if the bacteria isn't too strong) and you're using it for bulk.
This is a quote from Trusted Cultivator TheEaglesGift: The reason bacillus is a large issue is because often times it'll cause jars to stall and never even finish colonization, or grain to never recover once you use it for spawn(if the bacteria was serious enough). Bacteria isn't a common or major contamination of bulk substrates, so you're fine to use those jars for spawn, just don't go using any jars with bacteria as g2g masters.

I got them from aussimushroomsupplies, pretty much the only place other then reddit to find bags where i live. They have multiple different websites too.
Knew it would be risky before I ordered but I gave it a try anyway.

Inoculated both bags and am getting signs of growth on first bag but, is it the right kind of growth? It's right where the wet grains are.

If those are syringe-inoculated then you probably don’t have any serious problems to deal with. It looks like semi-solid cubensis mycelium to me. Word to the wise, next time spend your money on a pressure cooker, grains, and jars. This hobby is extremely difficult to do successfully without the proper equipment.
If you can’t afford any of the proper tools look into the PF tek.

More progress, any signs of contam? Should colonization be faster? These are beefy 2kg bags.

I think people have it in their heads that moisture = bacteria. In reality bacteria = bacteria. If all signs of moisture in a container of grain meant contamination it would mean that every liquid culture was 100% bacteria. I've had plenty of jars with excess water, some got gross sure, but often they are just wetter. 🤷
Obviously if bacteria finds its way to that water, it has a field day. As long as it's non bacteria containing water - all good.

Hey So, both bags are close to 100% colonisation but there are some bad signs.
Both bags have a couple small yellow (I think) droplets on the side of the bag. metabolites maybe?

The bottom of bag 2 I think looks funky too.

Bag 2 6 days after shaking

Bag 1 4 days from shaking

I'm thinking of spawning into shoeboxes just too see what happens.

I bet you're good to go there they finished up nicely. Even if it does have a little bacteria in there it shouldn't affect much.

Looks good maybe some bacteria, mostly just looks like grains pressed against the bag!
