I've used my tweezers in the past to cut through the agar. Wasn't a fan though. I know this seems obvious and I mean no offense by it but what about an Xacto knife or better scalpel?

Could try using a loop to scrape up some myc and transfer.

I am waiting for scalpel in the mail. Should be here tomorrow or wednesday.

I haven't used a loop yet. I can make one from a christmas ornament, but not sure about the handle.

Can you use sterilized swabs to xfer agar to agar??

I use an exacto knife. Craft store 7.99.plus they have an assortment of blades for them. Transfers I like the wood chisel tip cause you can cut and then slide it under your agar piece

Interesting! Thanks for the ideas guys!

I am PC'ing my agar in a 1 quart mason jar. I like to add more water so it cools down slower due to the thermal mass, to prevent boil over.
I usually use a whiskey bottle, but this time I have water about 2/3 to the top of the jar. Did I add too much water? Will it sterilize properly if there is that much water in the PC??

Is your PC running at 15Psi? Did you vent it for at least 5 minuets before adding the weight?

Yes. I have it going now at 16 PSI. I steam vented for about 15 minutes before adding the weight. I am gunna run it for 35 minutes, since the BRF has sediment

I think it should be okay too. I was just wondering if 2/3 of the jar is under water that it will sterilize properly

I prep my PC with about 2 inches max. I know Bod says to fill it to the level of agar, but if we are steam sterilizing it just seems like it would take longer to get the PC up to pressure. I don't have any experience with it because I have never done it. He might be on to something.

I think either home Depot or a store called Menards had handles with blades for like a dollar or 2. I actually prefer exacto over a scalpel. I keep it gutter though.

BOD is right as it did take longer to get to 15 PSI, took about 10 minutes after the venting to reach 15 PSI, not much of a difference in wait time but there is a difference and it is slower but doable

I am very grateful for them Gizmo. Thank you again.

I had swab them to agar plates. I took a transfer and put onto another agar plate. I am waiting for those to finish up!! It was interesting that the spore print was a rusty color!! I just poured 20 plates. I was careful with the agar master swab plate so I can continue from it. The Rusty's are what I am working on now! Hopefully my xfers were clean and awesome so I can put to grains.
