Identifying Contamination
    #26525911 - 03/09/20 06:07 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

I bought 6 rye berry spawnbags and one all-in-one bag on amazon. After two weeks of inoculation, I took them out to check on their progress. Unfortunately it looks like the all-in-one bag is contaminated with bacillus. The grains are slimy looking and I see no white growth. I also have one of the rye berry spawnbags covered in this brown dust like growth.

I've already segregated the two from the incubation chamber. I'm about to  throw the two out but I wanted to double check with the forum to see if it really is that bad. This is my first time cultivating so i'm praying to a variety of deities that the rest of my bags aren't contaminated.

The All-in-One is definitely contamed with bacillus, it's toast. The Ryeberry bag is a little harder to determine what exactly is wrong with it but you're right, it shouldn't have that brown dusty substance in there. I'd toss 'em both if I were you.

You are what is. That's all.

Gah, dammit. I'm beginning to suspect another one of my bags also has bacillus in the incubator. Maybe it was a mistake to try to grow in such a confined space. All I can hope is at least one or two of my 1lb grain bags colonize before I add them to a bulk substrate.
