Dammit....think my love affair with mushrooms is over
    #26523745 - 03/08/20 11:06 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Done 3 trips, first one was split doses of 2g, then another 1.5 later. Next 2 was 4g and 3.5g.

Never had an issue on first trip now both my last 2 trips have had horrible heartburn or more like esophageal spasm pain after like 1.5-2 hours. If you ever had that, you'd know what Im talking about and is worse than heartburn...feels more like youre having a heart attack. I had it in the pas a decade ago, and have some medication to help with it and that seems to be the only thing that helps calm it down, but I guess the psilocybin just messes with my gut and causes this. Wish I knew physiologically why it would do this.

I cant find anyone or anything that points to psilocybin causing this but its now happened both my last 2 trips and just not worth it. This one I was better prepared and sat mostly upright to help, but still could not prevent it from coming on. Took me almost 10 days the last trip for it to completely resolve. This time doesnt seem as bad afterwards. May just stick to some micro-dosing as that doesnt cause any issue.

So disappointing as just love everything else about mushrooms.

Just smoke weed if you want.

Not easy to find but not impossible.

Try LSD if you can find some.

Did you eat them or make tea?

Strange.

So is it more like heart burn/acid reflux, or is it more like are you experiencing muscle spasms in/around your esophagus?

If it's more like heart burn/acid reflux, I'd say it's likely happening because of your diet what you eat & drink.

If the mushrooms are giving you muscle spasms specifically around your esophagus, I dunno ...I have never experienced that myself while sober and I've never heard of anyone experiencing that from mushrooms in all the years I've been working with and reading about psychedelics/mushrooms.

Sounds kinda strange and random for mushrooms to trigger something like that...but if you say it only happens after you eat mushrooms then maybe they are playing a role?

All were consumed by a tea, not eating.

Yeah, feel fine, no issues, then bam, 1.5-2 hours in and it starts. The psilocybin is definitely triggering it. I agree, very weird. I eat a pretty darn healthy diet, low carbish, only organic mostly plant based diet. Had zero issue with hearburn, till I started the mushroom tea. Im stumped too, but my body dont like it!

75 to 150mgs of Zantac with or shortly before the mushrooms, or get some pure Limonene on amazon and take 10 drops once or twice a day for like 10 days to 2 weeks, with the Limonene specifically you should never have heartburn or digestive issues or GERD again ime, i was able to get off taking Zantac just by taking 10 drops of Limonene in a capsule like an hour before i ate, it not only helps with heartburn but gets digestion going. Also look into some good probiotics if possible.

Thanks Sabnock,
Yeah had thought about the Zantac route just like 12 hrs before doing some mushrooms(well Pepcid route now that Zantac is being recalled).

Had never heard of using Limonene, thanks for the tip, may give that a try!!
The strange thing is that I wasnt experiencing any heartburn prior at all and its like consuming the mushroom tea brings it on with a vengeance.

keep in mind, psychedelics often make you much more aware of your body. as in, you feel the aches, pains, and problems you have tuned out of your daily life because it's so commonplace and you've learned to ignore them. I'm going to assume you're taking this tea on an empty stomach? if so, it's probably not heartburn.

In other words, it might be you have an ulcer, which has a very similar sensation to heartburn. (do you take aspirin/NSAIDs or the like often, for instance, or stress a lot, or eat spicy foods often?) you might not realize you have it, but as soon as the trip starts, it might be you're starting to sense what you've normally tuned out. most likely it's minor if you don't notice it normally though - easing up on the spice, relaxing, and trying to stay away from aspirin if possible will help, as will taking acid reducers for a month or two to help it heal.

i know for my own ulcers, whenever i had them, it's a burning sensation that would be relieved for a short period of time if i swallowed some water, then come back after a few minutes. certain positions would cause it to flare up, probably because it was the stomach acid washing over the ulcer and irritating it.

I am a n00b when it comes to growing, but I have done my fair share of tripping. Since LSD is waaaaay too intense for me, I try to stick with the organic, milder stuff like HBW and MG seeds, mushrooms, etc. I used to get obnoxiously sick on Woodrose or MG seeds, but this was decades ago. Since I started tripping again, I have been using the seeds, until my shrooms crops eventually are able to be harvested.

However, and this is more relevant to your post than the rest of that blurb about my history, since starting up again with the seeds, I have NOT had one, single bout of even the slightest nausea. Now, I know a lot about the human body, and have studied it anatomically from top to bottom, so even though what I am about to say is hypothesis, it is a very educated one. There is a reason I am quite sure that I don't get nausea from the seed extract. I even ate as many as 6 raw Hawaiian Woodrose seeds straight up after grinding as an experiment. No nausea. I am sure that at 55 my stomach is NOT stronger than it was 20 and 30 years ago, so why am I not getting nasty-sick?

Simple! I am fasting. Not for the tripping, per se, but because I am very, very into bodybuilding, cycling, and fitness. I got my bofyfat down under 10%, and one of the ways I did it is with a lot of intermittent fasting. When I trip, I make sure that I ONLY do it in a completely fasting state. Every time I have tripped, since a week or so before coming to this forum, I had been in a completely fasting state. In my case a minimum of 12 hours, usually a lot more.

Now anyone who balks at this idea, consider this: If you trip in the morning, this is a lot easier to accomplish. Just stop eating around, say 8:00 PM the night before, and if you wake up at, say 8:00 AM you have already fasted for 12 hours without really trying. If you simply skip breakfast and wait until 12:00, which I think is even better, you get a 16 hour fast with minimal self-sacrifice.

Note: I cannot 100% guarantee this will help with mushrooms, since I haven't tried them in over 20 years, and will not be able to try this experiment until after my harvest. lol unless someone wants to send me some to experiment with now. Kidding!! But I am 99% sure it will. Anyone who is getting sick on mushrooms or seeds, to more of a degree than you consider acceptable, try taking them in a fasting state and see if that alleviates any nausea and other gastrointestinal upset, like cramps and uncomfortable gas pains.

@Psion
Yeah man I don’t know as the pain is pretty intense. Enough to completely take me out of tripping and if I was suffering from heartburn normally, this would make more sense but I don’t or at least not that I know of.

I will give it a break, and next time start taking some Zantac or the likes a couple days in advance, make sure I have an empty, empty stomach and if it occurs again, then will put it down to the psilocybin triggering something with my esophagus/gastric function that my body doesn’t like.

Also, something else to consider. From your symptoms, it sounds like you have something called Reflux Esophagitis. You would, of course, have to see your Gastroenterologist to be sure. I know people with this condition, and doctors generally prescribe what's called a proton pump inhibitor, such as Pantoprazole are highly effective. A lot of the over the counter antacids and such can also be effective. So is diet, by the way. In many people, diets high in sugars, starches, and other non-fibrous carbohydrates tend to exacerbate it, as do other elements that cause gastric upset. Presumably the compounds in mushrooms can fit this bill.

Again, though, consider trying to fast before tripping. You may find that's all you need.

I'd recommend seeing a gastroenterologist if you haven't yet.

You may have stomach or esophagus ulcer. You may have GERD or reflux.

Let me guess, you use lemons or add citric acid to your tea, right?

I had pretty bad heartburn every time I made acidic tea. Eating 1 Tums right before and 2 right after the tea solved it for me.

I mentioned something similar on here, dude, and forgive me I can’t remember who it was, but somebody said have you considered the lemon juice you make your tea with? I was then tripping at 2 week intervals, and apparently that is a lot of lemon juice rotting your stomach lining! I’d never considered a bit of lemon juice every two weeks was so bad!

Regardless, don’t think I have an ulcer, just occasional stomach upset, so I’ll crack on using the lemon....

Oh I’ve probably also said this before; I have a box of rennies ready for every trip, just in case the heartburn crops up, or whatever that feeling is. Rennies are the UK equivalent of. I believe Pepcid.

Ops lol
Coming clean - I didn’t read the whole thread:rolleyes:

Also, idk if I’ll ever stop using lemon juice, and I hope I never stop tripping. So I’m just gonna take my antacids and cross my fingers lol.
on the one hand, you got potentially permanent damage to your stomach, but on the other hand...the taste of shrooms.:awedisgust:

Prolly not the best choice on my part, but that taste...

Yeah the second time I did it, I used lemons and ate before too. So I absolutely attributed it to that. This time I never ate before and skipped the lemon, and even popped a couple of tums, didn't lie flat and STIll got it!!

Nothing else I ever eat causes the pain so suddenly. Ive gotten that over 10 years ago when I was eating a heavy carb diet and it stopped once I changed my diet, but that wasnt sudden, it was a gradual progression.... so its absolutely the mushrooms.

However...Im going to be extra cautious and try everything (drug wise) before next time and if it happens again, then I will attribute it to almost like an exaggerated response to the mushroom. Again....no issues prior to me tripping on mushrooms.

like i said, shrooms enhance your body's ability to sense itself. in other words, those aches and pains you normally don't feel manifest themselves because you're more attuned to your body than normal. you likely have an ulcer, and it's just one you normally don't feel because it's minor enough that it's not noticeable normally without the shrooms. at least, not yet.

i should mention that stress is another trigger for upset stomach/heartburns/ulcers, and the come up for shroom trips is often stressful for people. <_< not to mention a lot of people get burps/nausea/vomiting with em, so you might be getting some reflux... which might not normally be much of an issue, but if you have an ulcer, that acid is washing over it constantly, causing it to burn like hell and it hurts. if you're tripping, you're even more sensitive than normal, so it's going to sting even more than normal.

I'd second checking with a gastroenterologist or at least taking a PPI or the like for a month or two. it's very likely what you have. they often heal over time with medication and avoiding things like spicy/acidic foods and stress/aspirin, though if you've gotten them before you're prone to them and can get them again, so be cautious in the future around such things.

I’ve only ever had an ulcer once; I was 18 and had been eating chicken vindaloos for a while, when after a few lagers I went for the chicken tindaloo (one above vindaloo but below the phall!). I was in agony for 2 weeks......

I’m sure I was prescribed something called Zantac. Big wide round tablets.

Been conscious of it ever since though, it’s a pain you remember!
