I usually grow oysters. I decided to try some lions mane on some MEA and I got this...
Dish 1

Dish2

Dish 3

They were transferred on 12/9/19 Why is the agar so dark and why is the mycelium not white? Are they good to put to grain and make more transfers from?

that does not look healthy. looks like plates of contam. I have not used MEA agar yet. Only brf agar. LM does not turn it dark brown like that. Did you use a dark Malt? if there is such a thing...
While plate 1 doesn't look good. It looks like the only possibility of getting anything. It is tough to say for sure with pics, but it don't look good but maybe the lighting shadows. And if your agar is bad then I seriously doubt you will get anything. But I am not an agar expert. The plates of LM I have from around that same time as you are thick marshmellow white.
-------------------- Plan to win or you are planning for failure. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it. Just figure out the solution. Even if that means banging your head on a wall until the solution oozes out of you.

seagu, Thank you for your quick response. I don't understand why it turned the agar dark like that I poured 20 plates and all the lions main turned dark like that. None of the others turned dark. I thought it might be a lions mane thing. I will do some transfers from plate one and see what happens can't hurt anything. It is supposed to be mycelia monkey head so I don't want to lose it. I got it on a trade for Amycel 3015. Half of the ones I got did not grow. So no telling what is up with this. Anyway, thank you!!

in your place I would quickly take out a piece of dish 1. Before it grows over. very close to the inoculant. A place that looks rather thinly overgrown. The others look as if they are already in the "fruiting mode". I don't know the hedgehog on dish. But if I know something. .. then that the hedgehog is one who wants to get started right away.

mariapilz Thanks my friend I am going to cut that dish up and make a bunch of dishes and see if I can get something to save. It didn't look bad a couple of weeks ago but the dark agar worried me. I have never worked with lions mane so I don't know what to look for.

OK. I know him. .. the hedgehog on dish (I thought it was a shimeji at the time) at the beginning of the year I put photos in the german forum. hedgehog on MEA (peptone included). Note: my malt extract is old and had absorbed moisture ... no more powder ... a lump. Inoculant was a grain of first-class grainspawn
