Just requested to join both the groups i saw. Good looking out.

Got Ozone and ive been looking for this since i heard about it recently.

Im starting to learn more about mastering at the moment so its great timing for them to give this out for free. Ive been using maximus and the stock limiter and that has given me a decent foundation. Ozone does look like it would have been worth the pretty penny its worth.

What genre of music are you producing?

Well awesome

Me? I'm going for a churchy vibe right now, warm and soothing. this kinda thing is my inspiration

wanna get some opera style singing in there eventually kinda like this

Then on the other side I wanna do something I call 'island pop.' zany and silly. i don't have a good example of that on hand. i guess this kinda counts. that vocal at 1:20 just warms my heart

Subscribed to the channel.

So i got a 61 key midi and now that i have real keys to learn on I feel like its going to be a lot more work than what i had thought using my Akai Fire controllers note setting. Now i can set up an 32 pad FPC set up with FIRE controller and a chromatic key scale with a separate VST on my keys 16 pads for bass and chords/melodies to be played on the keys.  Still learning how to navigate using the MIDI so I can play more complex sessions with more layers.

Now i can throw together and jam out beats without constantly grabbing the mouse. Feels like im actually progressing in something since ive been lost in life for years. Makes me smile.

Given the pandemic and being "essential" I feel like I can maintain sanity throughout this whole ordeal balancing work and practice.  Got a bunch of free software and lessons with my keyboard so hopefully by the end of this pandemic ill be able to play like a solid pianist.

Cymatics has plenty thats what I primarily use.

Their MIDI packs helped teach me fundamentals of composition.

Ive been trying to find better samples but most sound like stuff i can make by modifying the samples I have.
I have been seeking out serum presets if anyone knows of any worth while.

If anyone wants to possibly send a project back and forth and play with it each time lmk. I think that would be fun FL studios files are all I know how to work with.

Yeah that'd be a fun idea, probably a good way to learn some tricks by looking at how other people do things. I still only have a beginning to a song though, been having a lot of trouble figuring out where to go with it.

Randomly had the idea to do something like this 'its always sunny in philadelphia' song but in a more musical way. Exclusively the 'go fuck yourselves' part.

Wish I could use the original recording but the piano would be mixed in with it

That is made for someone to come in and do magic to.

I would need to see the final product.

I made a shitty mix of tiger kings joe exotic that will not ever see the light of day again but I had the best time making it. Laughing my ass off thuroughly.

Here's that song I didn't know where to go with after the intro.
Constructive criticism is welcome, bearing in mind this isn't exactly polished, I have to completely re-learn mixing/mastering

p.s. thanks chronotype

Trying to make my first vocal heavy song atm so thought I'd post :wave2:

You definitely have an idea of what you are doing. Mixing/ mastering are two things that each seem to have a learning curve to them. Spend lots of time sifting throughout all the good and bad information that you can on these subjects. Apply them as often as you are able, ESPECIALLY on tracks you dont plan to release. That way you may have less pressure for perfection and more of an ability to explore all the parameters of a plugin, effect, or even concept. Music is so broad most of it is learning fundamentals and then using the tools you acquire in that process to apply to the canvas of your DAW.

If you learn anything do not hesitate to leave the information here for other music producers, artists, and audiophiles.

Thanks, that makes sense. Think I'm gonna spend a solid chunk of time just watching random fl studio tutorials/videos tonight to get me going. One thing I really hope is possible is for me to record something with my midi keyboard, but have Fl-studio convert what I recorded into piano roll so I can tinker with it.

And hey if anybody in the thread ever wants to swap .flp's I'm game

My vocal's didn't turn out so hot, was trying to do something forceful but I'm not much of a singer. My silly gibberish rap turned out pretty good on my first try though, think I'll try to develop that more tonight.

Ha, I hope I'm not hijacking your thread, I just like to talk about what I'm doing

I own a launchkey mk 2, 61 key midi keyboard and it is my favorite thing in the world. I link the parameters of serum to the controller to basically play on the virtual synth for hours of fun.

Recording on the keyboard has some latency issues for my system but like you said, with a quick touch up in piano roll and everything is sounding fine or even better than i can play since programing notes with a mouse still can actually be a handy creative tool to have.

I have a ton of files of music and only a couple people have heard them but i do plan on seeking out more feedback.

I do not have a mic or interface yet and those are my next goals so i can practice vocals and record my own sounds to sample. My goal is to build a studio with gear and instruments but now im getting sucked into modular synthesizers.

This thread is intended for all talks DAW and all things music production. So youre good.

Been getting into music again. Improvement is showing little by slow. How're y'all fairing?

I'm going to try making some electric drums, sounds surprisingly simple. Finally get some use out of that arduino that got left at my house.

Torn between going for the classic drumset design or just doing an all in one unit, like a box with multiple pads made to be played with hands instead of drumsticks. Not those tiny square pads you see on midi keyboards though, bigger than that.

Its been throwing me down an interesting rabit hole. Idk if you're familiar with 'that one guy,' a one man band where he plays this tall pipe he put strings and pickups into to play it like a standup bass, then sometimes its like he controls variables by just moving his hands in the air, like a theremin. Then he'll smack certain parts of the pipe that he's evidently installed electric drum pads into. Makes him very entertaining to watch, keeps you guessing as to what whimsical way he'll produce his next sound.

Then I keep seeing these components on the electric component sites that allows you to trigger things with a muscle sensor you put on your body. Can't quite think how I'd use it but it'd be sweet to be able to trigger effects on the drums by moving a certain muscle.

Sorry to double post but I just realized I could use my old rockband videogame drumset for this project which greatly simplifies it. I figure lots of us have those drumsets around and might want to get some use out of it.

I have been getting deep into the technology aspects myself and it even sparked an entirely new skill for me. I started teaching myself electronics and plan on building my own modular set up. Right now i am learning on software how to patch different sounds. I want to eventually build my own MIDI controllers and other electronic musical gadgets. Right now im on such a tight budget that everything is just a dream but it keeps me driven so. Circuit bending a rock band drum set would be really cool i got a yamaha dd9 i may do something with in the future if i dont just keep it as is.

Feel free to post the drum pads here when you get them built. Im very geeked about all things DIY electronic instruments.

Revive o musicians of the shroomery. (imagine the knights of Ni demanding a shroomery rather than a shrubbery)

I come to recant me recent endevours that you may share yours weary travelers. I've decided to put DAW work on the backburner and have instead been playing at least one real instrument every day. I find having a variety of instruments helps keep my interest over the weeks, guitar bass drums and keyboards.

I also recorded a cover of Beware by Death Grips I was relatively proud of. I'm not a vocalist, even less a rapper with the animosity of death grips, but for it being my first time recording a full song of vocals I'd say it turned out pretty good. I used pantyhose stretched over a coat hanger as a pop filter, worked quite well. Definitely need to get a better mic though, You had to practically have your lips on this one to get it loud enough, couple that with accidentally grazing it with the popfilter and it got frustrating

I've asked everyone close to me to come jam with me or start a cover band for fun, but no takers. I've been considering going to craigslist for a band/jam buddy so I can really learn how to play alongside others, but it just feels risky. I'm not having some rando over so he can scope out my equipment and make plans to steal it. Perhaps I'm overly paranoid. Plus I'm also just self conscious of my relatively low skill level were I to encounter some truly skilled people

Additionally I've taken to collecting other random instruments, I got something called a tremolo harmonica. It has 2 reeds in each hole, one of which (in each hole) is slightly off tune. These produces a lovely chorus effect and the two notes will then warble/tremolo together. Been thinking about getting a jaw harp

Then my mother got me the best gift anyones ever gotten me, a freaking didgeridoo! Very unique instrument insofar as how you play it, its very new to me but I can make the basic droning tones.

I'm still debating which of the more expensive instruments to purchase next, I lean for a saxophone, or an accordion, a banjo, or something more exotic. Some bongos. Any suggestions?

Perhaps the gem of all my recent experience: I'd never really tried to play my emotions on an instrument, or if I did they were always cheerful. But I've been very depressed lately, and I consistently find that when I pick up an instrument and translate my sorrow into music it makes me feel a LOT better. Perhaps this is an elementary lesson of music, but y'all should try it, play your anger, play your fear, your sorrow. Suddenly those emotions become fun, you're just having fun playing a sad song on your guitar and singin the blues

Getting into that aspect of things also interests me. At least I think it'd be nice to have intimate knowledge of how sound electronics work. I Found a vein a while back, think it was on instructables or on the arduino website, that was all about making midi controllers and the like. At a glance I recall it appearing simple, but I haven't soldered since high school and may be wrong.

The rockband drums still sit unfinished, a shame because it really wouldn't take much work to complete them but I haven't been this depressed since I was a teenager. I've been considering buying a retail electronic drumset but the frugal DIY'r in me protests

Most of the videos on how to make these rockband drums used needlessly complicated methods, integrating arduinos and such. Then I found this other video where the guy just plugs an unmodified drumset into his computer usb and then simply used a program that interprets signals from gaming controllers and was just able to map out his sounds that way without altering the device itself. Maybe somebody here with a little more wind in their sails could try it and report back

My vote is for Saxophone.

I'll pick one up eventually. I'm a pianist but I also dabble in drums, guitar, and bass.

If you don't have any synthesizers, that's a pretty fun way to get into electronic music production. Being able to manipulate parameters in real time is always much more exciting than virtual instruments in my experience.

Cool to see other members discussing music. Seems i'm a bit late to the party but there's not a lot of talk about this on the forums.
