B+ Substrate Colonization Thoughts
    #26524736 - 03/08/20 10:27 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hello.  Just wondering what y’all think about the progress of these three totes.  One is bods af Monotub, and the other two are Polyfil Monotubs.  How does the growth look?  They have been colonizing 3-4 days.  Thanks.

Anything I should be watching to determine if I need to mist or fan?  Humidity seems high in totes.

Usually you want to let it go until fully colonized and pinset mist only if it looks to be getting to dry

Does mycelium generally colonize entire substrate matrix?

Yes after the myc has colonized the sub you can either case or fruit it as is.

What is the point of casing after colonizing the substrate?  Larger surface area for mycelial growth?  Thank you.

It is supposed to improve surface conditions but I never do bother with it. It is important on some strains like penis envy or ape

Re: Myc _ The point of casing is  (generally speaking) moisture control. Cubies don't need special microbes in the casing soil etc.. But I always case because the fruitbodies will draw moisture ONLY from the substrate in an uncased tub, but from both the substrate AND the casing in a cased sub. Both methods work. People repeat the methods that are most successful for them. I can't say that my way is better (using a casing) because lots and lots of people have awesome grows w/o a casing. Good luck!

Need to level your surface better in the future. Otherwise looks good. I prefer a casing at spawn.

If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow

You get there quicker just a step at a time
