I got a 8kg rice, it was the biggest bag at the store, think I need another one? I also got 10lbs of navy beans and 10lbs of great northern beans

Lmfao. It seems like this virus is nothing more than a relatively bad cold. You'll be fine as long as you arent 80 or have copd.

I have all sorts of things prepped, including a filled freezer because I guesstimate that electricity will keep flowing, but the mainstay of my dry prep are 5 airtight foodgrade HDPE containers, one with 60lbs of rice, one with 50lbs of red lentils as my primary rice-beans combination, a tub of 6kg freezedried veggies mix (60kg rehydrated), a tub of 14kg DIY breakfast grains (BUCKY-BREK) and a tub of 6kg whole egg powder. Also, 5kg whey protein.
Got all this in January. I knew what's up
Considering the fact that rice doesnt cost dick and you ARE going to use it, it wouldnt hurt taking a larger quantity in an airtight foodgrade tub.
The proverbial "vat of rice" is the backbone of developing world cuisine. If all else fails, there's always the vat of rice to fall back on.
Rice alone will give you kwashiorkor over time, but not over shortterm disaster durations.
If you are somebody who can envision themselves to eat rice regularly, white rice keeps at least 3 years, so why not go for 3x8kg, the typical 25kg bag? A vat to store it in vs bugs and moisture is key.
Plastic buckets are really cheap.

Buy as much as you can. Store in plastic bins if possible because of rodents/bugs!

We live in the developed world, it has an elaborate food industry, where goods are traded in foodgrade vats of various sizes. These are a waste product and can be had for cheap second hand (internet!) and arent that expensive new either (internet!)
I mailordered 3 of these babies, they arrived wrapped in plastic foil as a mail parcel.
They are 31 liters = 8+ gallons each, price was 6 bucks apiece new I believe. The screw on lids have a silicone rubber lining to make it airtight.

They hold 20kg of lentils or rice easily.

I dropped the phrase several times but I'll emphasize it:
Red Lentils
They're cheap, the fastest cooking lentil, a tasty legume with 22% protein (half of meat)
Most dried beans have long cooking times, red lentils can be done in 10min if you use an immersion blender after 4min of cooking.
Lentils are an unheard of food for most people, but vegetarians know whats up, its a legume that can help replace meat. Its a staple in parts of the world and its delicious.
Its kinda inbetween a bean and a pea in flavor.

If you have about 2 parts grain (macaroni, rice) to 1 part legume (bean, pea, lentil) by weight, it locks into each other as a balanced protein.
You dont have to mix them on your plate, ypou can have 2 grain based meals and 1 legume based meal in a day and it would work too.

an 8 gallon vat is surprisingly discreet in size.
Its round and about 30cm across and 40cm high.
The 3 vats clingwrapped together were a single mail parcel, not even particularly expensive because of low weight.

Very nice. How long do you think the food contained in one container would last you if you only ate that one container?
