That's actually always a possibility. That any virus can mutate to be spread through vectors like mosquitoes.
That's why I'm not flipping out. HIV being spread by mosquito bites has been in my plausible scenarios.
Currently luckily for us that virus is destroyed by the mosquitoes digestive system.
But the natural forces of evolution is constantly encouraging microbes of all varieties to be more contagious.
Fortunately it also encourages them to be less drop dead deadly. The last outbreak of Ebola was so successful because it wasn't as lethal as other strains and possibly more contagious.
EDIT: you meant the drink, didn't you? That'd be pretty cool.

Before the month is out there's going to be way more cases reported outside of China than inside of it.
Once that happens, no doubt, China will ease into the REAL figures of what goes on there, when they are no longer the odd one out.
I read two days ago that there are already more cases outside of China than inside it.
On another note the Attorney General of NY has ordered televangelist Jim Baker to stop advertising Corona virus cures on his show. If you're older you remember Jim Baker. He was the biggest TV preacher of the 80's. His first wife Tammy Faye Baker, who was his cohost, wore more makeup than was thought humanly possible.

Its a good idea to have some extra food and water around for all kinds of reasons. I bet there were some peole in quebec during that big ice storm that knocked everyone's power out who could have used some extra food.
If I get sick I'm going to be self quaranyining to avoid infecting people so I should be prepared for that.
I think there is a good chance this will be resolved. but if the numner of cases in my province starts growing ecponentially I will be preparing.
Way to edit out the part where I said IF the number of cases in Ontario reaches a certain point.
IF it does then preparing is smart.
People on both sides of this issue are way too sure of themselves and way to qick to get on peoples backs.
I cant beleive "lets wait and see what happens" is so controversial.

I was recently looking into swine flu, the last virus I remember going around that sounded real scary.
Quote:
As of mid-March 2010, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that about 59 million Americans contracted the H1N1 virus, 265,000 were hospitalized as a result, and 12,000 died.[117]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_in_the_United_States_by_state
Quote:
On April 28, 2009, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the first official US death of swine flu, a 23-month-old toddler from Mexico who died on April 27 while visiting Texas.[120] By June 24, 132 deaths had been attributed to the virus. As of January 11, 2010, at least 13,837 deaths were attributed to the virus worldwide, and at least 2290 deaths in the US were confirmed to be due to the virus. The CDC suspects, however, that the total number of deaths in the US is much higher than the official total, as some deaths probably went unconfirmed.[citation needed]
This started in Mexico and also popped up first on the west coast so understanding how H1N1 behaved is probably a good place to start in understanding what to expect from coronavirus in the US. Though you also have to keep in mind that H1N1 did a spanish flu and afflicted young people as much or more than older people.
For the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_by_country
As you can see by the conflicting sources we still don't even understand that decade old outbreak.
So while you can't expect coronavirus stats to yet be near accurate I think alot of the measures taken has been specifically to get better data this go around.

To the person who asked, the number of cases outside of China is now greater than inside of it.
I'm surprised that people stock on water. I mean, the sink won't stop working.

Faucet water isn't magic. It has to be pumped through vast networks of pipes. Those pumps and pipes must be constantly maintained in order to function. If at some point there is widespread illness, much of this normal maintenance work may go undone. It is entirely possible that large numbers of people end up without water service for some period of time. Not super-duper likely, but possible.

I am pretty sure I had H1N1. a kid at my school supposedly had it. and while it was going on I had one of the worst, longest lasting flus of my life. I went to the doctor, told him my symptoms, asked if it could be swine flu, he said there was a good chance it was and he said we didnt need to bother testing or treating it. there were many cases in Ontario. over 4000 confirmed by lab tests but the vast majoriry were probably never reported or confirmed.
my dad got it too, probably from me and we were both out of commission for a while. over a week atleast I cant remember exactly.
the CDC says 12 000 americans will die in any given year from the flu btw.
